If you are hauling dangerous loads, like gas or chemicals, and running that hard, you should be making a lot more than 50K a year. In Philly here, drivers for Sunoco run 10 HR days, and are lucky to get a 12 HR day 1 or 2 times a week. They work something like 6 on, then 2 off, which must stink. But for their dedication to their job, the average guy is making well over 75K a year.
It is hard to get in with Sunoco, but they only want the best drivers out there. The trick is that they are willing to pay well enough to attract the best the industry has to offer.
Pulling a tanker, with Hazmat loads was not the problem. Working for a bad company was the problem. -
payroll tax.........wouldn't increase with 2 drivers.
other costs would be ofset but a more efficient truck as it would run 24/7.
I think the OP worked/works for a firm that isn't very good or smart in their approach to what needs to be done. -
