Anyone have issues downshifting from 7th to 6th in a ten speed? I dont know what it is I am doing wrong. Any suggestions on how to properly shift from 7th to 6th would be great. I can shift down 10-7 just fine just when I go from 7-6 I seem to have issues. 6 on down I am fine.....appreciate any suggestions to help solve this little issue.

Just remember, clutch, shift to neutral, blip the throttle (rev) to about 1100-1300 and clutch in and shifter into 6th remember to slow down as well. If you hear a high pitched grind the gear is to fast and if you hear a low pitched grind that gear is to slow. That's how I learned, and remember don't give up!

It might be that the transmission has issues, I had a 10 speed recently that didn't shift well at all, lots of roughness even though the linkage was tight and precise.
Are you trying to double clutch or float? The engine is also a possibility, the N-14 is harder to get it right in my opinion, it speeds up and slows down much faster than a Series 60 or Cat. -
Everyone has their own style, but watching that flick, the guy is almost strong arming it into the next gear. I prefer to take a bit more time and gently make the shift. Like i said, everyone has their own way.....

It is just going from 7 to 6 that is the issue? I would have the truck checked, and in the mean time skip the gear, downshift from 7 to 5.

My bet is you're missing the gate.
If you can get down 10-7, you get how to match rpms, etc
But you're not coming far enough left into your leg to catch the gate and it will slide into gear.
Typically going up (5 to 6), you jam it all the way left as one big quick movement and it always goes in.
But coming down (7-6) you don't come far enough left to drop it in, you try and go straight back (not you you, just you driving) -
Clutch? I thought we only had to use that thing when taking off from a stop....
There are times that having 3 feet would be nice though...one for each pedal! -

The last time I drove a 10 speed. To do a two gear down shift. Before you kick it out of 10th gear. Those rpm has got to come down with the tranny.Got to use some brake here.slow those rpm down. So about 1000 rpm kick it out. Before hitting 8th gear. Those rpms has got to come up around 1800 rpms.a little gas. Any higher could hurt the motor. Put it in 8th gear take foot off the gas. because your slowing down right. Now with a one gear down shift. Like 7th to 6th as said before there is a gate(like going in rev. gear). But when down shifting one gear you need at least 400 rpms to play with thats not more then 1800 rpms. So lets just say 7th to 6th. Before you kick it out. Brang down those rpms down by useing some brake. Rpms down to a 1000 rpm. No gas. kick out and brang those rpm up 400 rpms.Now a little gas. At 1400 rpms kick it in. foot off gas. Because your slowing down. Check on the operating range for that tranny. I use to a 1000 to 1300 low gears 1st thur 5th. 1600 to 1800 on 6th thur 10th. This will vary with up and down hill condition. Two gear shift down need 800 rpms. One gear down shift need 400 rpm, with out going over 1800 rpms. Stay in the operating range. Are you might be picking up pieces. Good luck. Hope I helped alittle.

Sorry,but I never had a truck that I had to downshift that low in loaded uphil pull.Or are you just trying to sound cool with jakes?
