Thanks, but I've long since had this motor rebuilt. Spent over $40k on the motor and a lot of other parts like radiator, CAC, turbo, injectors, etc. etc. Very few used parts left under the hood.

You have my issue..I burn 1 Gallon of oil every 25,000 miles..I have had a head gasket leaking for 5 years now.It is getting a bit worse lately. But still performing very well..I have a detroit 500 Pre EGR with 1.5 Million Miles and NO OVERHAUL..

When i was GETTING CURIOUS i went to ask all the shops..It was ''typical'' B/S.Rebuild it i was told. Then the numbers gave me a heart attack..15,000-25,000...In the end i was lucky and found this site and asked other people..These people were trying to RIP ME OFF with a whole bunch of B/S....

I am still running this old truck and it is very important i do not run it hot.So i book alot of light loads..I also found a good ''old school'' machanic that will rebuild my engine for 10,000-12,000....So get informed and talk around. And stay away from these RIP OFF ARTISTS called Machanics...

I know someone with a similar engine issue. It's leaking oil from a few places including the rear cylinder head. About $6k to seal the engine or $12k to do an inframe. He's saving his pennies for the inframe. It will come with Cummins warranty and won't give problems for a very long time.

After all the work, including the rear structure re-seal during our transmission drop-n-swap last month, it's dry as a bone now. No leaks anywhere, and finally, no lake of oil under the truck when it leaves the truck stop. :)
