so I got a call from Cummins a little bit ago. They said I need the wiring harness going to my egr. I didn't think to ask why mine went bad. I guess I'll ride up there in the morning. They did same it was some what common. Has anyone had this problem? And if so do you know why yours failed?

That section of the harness runs from the ECM on the left side of the engine, up over the rocker cover along the front, then down in behind the accessory bracket to the EGR valve. Time and heat cycles does take it's toll on the wiring making it brittle. It has probably also rubbed through in many different locations by now. It is just better to run new wires instead of constantly fixing and patching old ones.

Makes sense thank you! Also they said I had a leaking manifold gasket. They mentioned that the manifold may be warped. Does that occur often with this engine?

Leaks, yes. Usually the bolts stretch or break. You can see the black soot stains from the exhaust leak easily. Manifolds can warp, but that is more from an age point of view anyway. We always send out manifolds to our local machine shop to replain them anyway. Most of the time warping isn't the issue, it is just pitted or eroded sealing surfaces that cause future leaks.
