Filaw just bought another truck, used star with dd15 approx 400,000 miles, in the shop blowing coolant out the dipstick, and oil out the blow by tube. Will find out next week what the problem is, maybe liner dropped? His other dd15 lasted about to 750,000 miles and got swapped out. The b50 life of 1.2 mill just doesnt seem to be there. Not too many little problems though.
ISX or DD15, which should I buy?

blame egr/dpf/scr. They don't give the turbo to breathe.

# 4 liner has 2 cracks opposite from each other, also 2nd piston ring seized and piston skirt is scored up scratching up insides of liner. liner has protruded up out of the bore. maybe somehow liner got too hot, liner got cracks, washed inside of liner, piston skirt scored liner, ring seized and then liner lifted? more investigating tomorrow.

Detroit only paying for the one hole with the damage, piston, liner, inj, con rod etc. cyl head had no damage. hoping not over heated at any point, I guess the shop had to hook up computer for warranty to approve repair?

back together now, but before truck left shop engine developed a weird ringing/whistling sound at a higher then idle rpm. 2-3 seconds of sound then 2-3 seconds of good. they check into it tomorrow with cyl. cut out and take v/c off.

The Cat had no issues other than a set of studs in the head (preventative maintenance) but it was VERY thirsty, and then the engine wiring caught on fire and it burned to the ground...........
the Volvo I have is so much better on fuel my savings make my payment, I haven't had to touch a bolt on the engine yet, and with the spec it has, 455 hp ecotorque 1450-1750 and the ishift, it out pulls the C15 and DD15 hands down. Once again, I gave owned both. Haven't owned an ISX yet and wouldn't after some of the issues I've been told about. I looked at them but was cautioned buy cummins mechanics to not do it. My .02. -
Your c-15 must of been on the lazy side....The only volvo/ mack that can keep me in site on the hills is the 625 they put in the mack titian.... -
I had my C15 dynoed and it was all great. The thing with the new trucks is that all the components work together so well the days of piece mealing a truck together might be over, the manufacturers are putting together packages that are made to work together. And work better than selecting random pieces from different manufacturers.

all fixed, just a injector hold down bolt.
