I've seen few post about it, but none of them seams to get resolved. My truck since new would run for about 15 sec and burp, and then run fine. After few years those " burps" became worse. It would surge till warm, but always would start and run fine for first 15 sec. There was part of fuel pump that was leaking and was replaced, but that didnt changed anything. And at times it would run fine. My new mechanic told me its caused by 2 sensors that go out of whack. The way he was talking its common in ISX but I've never heard about it. And as those sensors are inside gear cover it 2K + job. Anybody knows anything about it? Oh, and Happy ( and profitable) New Year to all

There are two sensors on the gear cover but not in it. You have the crank position sensor which is kind of hard to get to as it is on the drivers side of the harmonic balancer stuck up in a tight area. The other is the cam position snesor that is on the top passenger side of the gear cover near the themostat housing.

I think those are the sensor that my mechanic was talking about. He said that one of them tend to get stuck. So maybe that why he said that gear cover has to come off.

You should be able to remove either sensor without having to remove any other part on the engine. Both of them have o-ring gaskets on them to seal the hole and are held in place with either an 8mm head or a 10mm head bolt.

Can anyone verify that replacing these sensors fixed the surging? Won't they throw a code if failed?

I'm having my crank, cam, and throttle position sensors replaced on Monday. About $300 plus labor. If this solves the surging I'll let you know. My CM870 does the exact same thing you described, with the "burp" about 15 seconds after starting it. Surges all the time now, and no one seems to know how to fix it.

Replaced those 3 sensors, no change. Still surges like a beast.

Sorry to hear that.......I've spent lots of time beating up my cat. But it's a gem compared to yours.

    Best of luck.

    VisionLogistics Thanks this.

Is the surging noticable on the tach or is it just audable?
