I have a 2003 W-900 with a pre-emission 550 ISX, it has a waste gate turbo, I keep getting a check engine light for turbo speed(there is no turbo speed sensor never was). The turbo was new in September installed be Cummins and been having issue ever since. I didn't have any problems before new turbo was installed.
When check engine light come on it derates the engine, always happens in a hard pull going up hill, coming down hill light goes out and were back in business. Have replaced engine pressure sensor on the intake and installed new ambient pressure sensor.Have had it back to Cummins and Kenworth ,they scratch there heads say i don't know and hand me a bill for there time, anyone have any clue as to what is going on,or how to fix the problem?

the waste gate control on these engine comes from the intake side of the engine can you check if that line or the fitting is plugged up and it's not controling your waste gate properly. i dont see how it could tell what the turbo speed is. i had it a long time ago a problem like this and it turned out the fitting was bad on top of the intake cuz i believe it has a valve built in. did you make sure the waste gate if functioning properly maybe the clip fell off i've had that happen a couple of times as well.

So the problem started after the cummins shop installed turbo?
If so my guess is cummins may have updated the ecm to the latest emissions file. -

Are you 100% sure your old turbo didn't have a speed sensor?
Wastegated turbos can still have speed sensors
