One of the few remaining PITA's, like pocket change, we could certainly do without. Dates back to 1966. Nothing we do today relates to 1966. And the inevitable heart attacks,,don't laugh, I had a friend, his brother died on DST day. Colorado has had it on the books for years to eliminate it,,,nothing yet.

The number of daylight hours do not change because of the time change.

yes it does... take arizona for example.. on the normal system, we change to pacific timezone.. during the summer its gets dark about 7:30 pm here... if we participated in daylight savings it would get dark at 8:30, which would make another hour of heat we all have to deal with.. which is why they decided not to participate however many years ago when it first started... up in northwest montana during the long days of summer like mid july. it dont get dark til around 10pm.. craziness

The change between night and day is caused by the rotation of the earth on its axsis...The changing lengths of days and nights depends on where you are on earth and the time of year. Also, daylight hours are affected by the tilt of the earth's axsis and its path around the sun.

The number of hours of sunlight or nighttime do not change, regardless of what the clock says. The only way that changes is with the rotation of the earth around the sun. The only thing that may change is how you adjust your life or schedule or activities during the times of available light or darkness.

\ it adds an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day. essentialy borrowing it from the beginning of the day... so technically you're right there is no actual hours being added to the day.. but daylight savings makes it seems like that

    Not to me.
Now when I start driving it is still dark, so those daylight hours are no more.

And more light in the evening will not change how fast the truck stops fill up in those late afternoon hours.
