What's funny is that there are drivers here that think the money in trucking is good.

It costs more money to hire a security guard to WATCH a truck than it does to hire a guy to DRIVE the truck.

    Think about that.

That's pretty much common knowlege. That's like saying the prison guard gets paid more than the inmate. Truck drivers rank lower than janitors in the new job market listing.

I heard some interesting info on the trucking channel on Sirius the other day. Even in this down economy with at least 6 applicants per job, trucking jobs continue to go unfilled. Also, 70% of new driving school grads are gone in 6 months.

Not to state the obvious, but when you have law enforcement and the shipping industry picking the pockets of drivers and no quality of life + no $ for the driver, it's only going to get worse. Everyone seems quick to pass onerous rules on to the drivers but do NOTHING to make it better for them. I would LOVE to see a complete shutdown for a day or two to get the industry's attention.

I think trucking is like any other job, it is what you make of it. If go in with a good attitude and do what you're suppose to, it can be very rewarding. However, if you go in it thinking you know it all and everyone owes you something, you probably will make about as much as a janitor.

Not to forget that trucking is STILL listed by OSHA as in the TOP 10 Most dangerous jobs!
And look at the pay now!
I'm arguing with one rookie in another thread about this "training pay as a team member" of $.18 cents a mile and he thinks it good money!
So many of these rookies are being spoon fed this crapola that pay is down due to the economy! BULL! But what do they know as they fall all over themselves because they need money and these BFI's let them and get rich using them as cheap labor until they can "let them go" and replace them with another group of "uniformed!"
Trucking is/has become a cesspool and people are jumping off the high dive right into the middle of it!

    Repo Thanks this.

Low pay and very little home time are two major factors with high turnover, along with all the other crap trucking includes. Expecting a young person with a family to stay out for 3 to 6 weeks is unacceptable. When companies changed from mostly getting people home every week for a full weekend to staying out for weeks at a time is when things started to degrade.
