10 years old or newer some shippers want but usually most don't care if you're truck and trailer are ratty pieces of trash.
Some of the places I've picked up I've seriously wondered how the other guys truck even makes it off the lot.
Often I've wondered if they are doing the same work for cheap rates just looking at the junk equipment. Anyways.
It is better to Deadhead than take cheap freight

On Thursday I showed up to pick up a 450 miles $1600 load with my nice 2006 trailer. It got rejected, because the shipper needed it to be 10 years old or newer. Broker swears he did not know about this requirement
I am planning on getting new trailer next year. While not many shippers require newer trailer, it always happens in the wrong time -
I called on a load last week. Going 159 miles and required tarping. I was told $325. I just laughed. He said it was only going 150 miles and I responded that was still going to be 5 hours of my time if not 6. He told me people do it all the time. Good, we need more people to go broke.
murat, JimmyWells, nax and 4 others Thank this. -
But hey if they want to find someone else to pull it for free more power to him. -
Sadly someone is moving that for $325. Sometimes I'll move a 100-150 mile load for $500 if I know I'll be done by 2 and can grab another better load later in day. I most likely will sit until later in day anyway until a broker gets worried and takes a high rate.
My trailers a 2001( van) and haven't had many times when I can't take a load BC of the 10yr rule. They've always told me up front. GM and paper company's like that 10 yr rule.nightgunner Thanks this. -

Don't Let the Brokers give you a Sobbing story of shippers only Paying BS... The $700 on a 100- mile move is a lower Standard to Start with- Many Shippers pay much more.
I catch you guys moving 100 mile shipments for 500 bucks cause you "Feel bad" For a Broker or Shipper I'm gonna wring your Necks!!!JimmyWells, Freddy57, nax and 2 others Thank this. -
Sometimes I get 700...most of time that early morning quick run is being booked for no more than $500 on the board. Then that same 100-150 mile is 700-900 later in day. Obviously I want both at 800+ but from my experience the morning one will go for cheaper. -
I've never felt bad for a broker. I always start Monday morning offering 700-800 on a dozen short runs and usually get laughed at.
