Little tip for ya - There's not a lot of money made as a broker on those loads, either. Odds are if it's a dirty cheap rate, the broker in question went in dirty to make a cheap shipper happy and try to handle their freight. The thing is, a cheap shipper is a cheap shipper. You waste a lot of time trying to rustle up a cheap carrier to take a cheap load, and to me, the margin doesn't merit the time waste. I'd rather be prospecting and moving better paying freight and getting you guys a decent paying load than trying to hand off cheap ####. That's why I don't go after lumber, for instance. No margin there. No sense in spinning my wheels.
It is better to Deadhead than take cheap freight

Bulk paper.... Pipe. Don't get me started on anything coming out of Womble in Houston...nightgunner and boredsocial Thank this.

Mother of god #### pipe. So many cheap pipe shippers. Of course everyone else always has a pipe customer they print money on and then when I find one they pay like 85% of market rates at best.PPLC Thanks this.

That's been my experience... couple that with wholly whacky shipping and receiving hours, and I don't even mess with it.boredsocial Thanks this.

Pipe is one of those goofy products. Shipper A pays fantastic rates 50 percent higher than other product in the same market, but 200 miles away in a different market shipper B is paying 50% less than other commodities.

Both sides are correct today Everything depends on variabes Day of week, how far from home, etc. Profitability should never be measured load to load.

You are absolutely right. As O/O we need to look all angles. There are so many variables to take on account , but none of these variables should be CHEAP RATE. When I go to anywhere in FL, I make sure I charge for my dead miles to turn around. I get out of there EMPTY. I rather drive empty to Georgia or LA and get a better pay than screw up the market for other O/O.
