    hi
I need some advice I am 21 years old and am trying to get myCDL in ohio. I know how to drive and have been driving for the last 5 months. I can back up, shift and get around tight cities without a problem so I go to take the test at a school that is closest to me,I bring my own truck and trailer. I get there and start the pre trip I pass the pre trip and the skills test then go start the road test, I do the road test and am ½ mile from the school and I rush a yellow light and the instructor side I ran it ok it was close I will take it ,he said I drove perfectly but ran the light so I reschedule for the next week.

I show up to take the road test with my truck and trailer and I get a new instructor we start the test and I am driving just like I did before we get back to the school and he said I FAILED because I pushed in the clutch at a railroad track and coasted. Now there is a stop light just after the tracks so I coasted over the tracks and stop at the light which he says is an automatic fail.
When I get home I look at the paper he gave me of the test, under the automatic fail are things that would get you a ticket like running a light, hitting a sign or someone, not pushing in the clutch and then there is other which he checked and wrote "pushed clutch in crossing railroad tracks" as I am looking at the test there is a box to check for coasting for more than your truck length which is one point then I look at rail roadcrossing he has checked pass on railroad crossings.
So I do not know why I failed. I should only have 1 point for coasting but he said I failed. I passed the test but he said I failed for something that should only be 1 point.

I own my truck and trailer and bringing it there is costing me a lot in lost income. I do not want to take my truck up there and have them fail me again for something they make up.

who can i call or what can i do to fixs this i keep passing the test but thay keep failing me.

sorry for the long post but this is just wrong i passed the test and they will not give me the CDL.
    Thank you for your time.

No expert here, but I'll give you what I can recollect about my training.

When crossing a RR track, you must have control of the vehicle. It was stressed to me that you do not ever shift while crossing a RR track, the reason being that the momentary shifting could result in a loss of power while crossing and could potentially cause a stall on the track.

I can only venture a guess that the same theory is working here....pushing in the clutch compromises the power to the wheels while crossing the RR track and would therefore cause a fail.

    Good luck.

You're not supposed to shift or push in the clutch going over a RR track. Sucks you failed but that's how it is.

In Indiana if you touch the clutch or shift on the tracks it is an auto-fail. So i don't if it the same over there.

If you knew you had to stop, you should have geared down to the correct gear before crossing the tracks so you would neither have to shift or push in the clutch while crossing the tracks. This is just one of the infrequent situations you'll encounter as a driver. Sorry about this one, but it sure sounds like it falls on you.

How far past the tracks was the stop light?
