Hey.. well, I have not been on here for months.. Since I set out having found a small company with tons of promise willing to send me out with a very experienced driver to give me a refresher course and some training...
Well, it did not goes as I had hoped.. pretty much the usual BS... the guy training me.. gross.. did not shower or changed his clothes for weeks.. He developed a crush on me and would continually ask me to marry him and that we would be in trucker bliss if I would just marry him..
The company, not as bad as many out there.. But, did not haved the miles.. and it was rediculous.. I would get a load with 600 miles.. but 4 friggin days to deliver it... Spent plenty of time in La Porte and Laredo, then meandering back to Iowa..
However, the truth is, it did give me the Refresher Course and 3 months of recent experience that gives me a little more to work with and opens more doors for me...
No, I did not make the money I was told I would.. and did not get the Home time they said I would.. Had to deal with a filthy crazy man.. but, again.. the point is.. I got my foot in.. I learned and gained some experience...
I wanted to stay and get a year in.. however, I met some awesome drivers out there.. and they helped me to realize, that it is not in my best interest to stay.. the equiptment was in bad shape, we had to avoid weigh stations cause our tractors and trailers would not make it through an inspection... and through the help and advise of othe drivers I realized that I should get out while I have not gotten ticketed or got any safety violations...
So that is where I am at today.. on some well needed well deserved hometime and exploring my options..
I share this for the newbies.. because it is how it goes.. but, you have to decide which way you will look at it all... I can focus on the bad or just take stock it that I got a refresher and some experience which I needed... and I can move forward...
It is what it Is.. just keep moving forward...

I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Some men don't get it. They think every woman should bow to them and their disgusting habits and lack of hygiene. As for the company, there are others out there. Lots more. Better ones. Good luck to you and happy holidays.
SheepDog, blairandgretchen and TruckDuo Thank this. -
Great advice for newbies.
blairandgretchen and KW Cajun Thank this. -
Is'nt that the truth though.Even though this is an equal opportunity profession, women do have some standards that a lot of the male gender just don't get.Im not going to work anywhere that some lady trk drivers don't work like the last company.
SheepDog Thanks this. -
Men should be more like me. Seriously. Lots think every woman wants them. I think none want me. And I act accordingly. A woman can so the job just like I can, and I've seen women who can run circles around any man. Really about time the sexist attitudes changed already. It's almost 2014. Not 1814.

I'm also sorry this had to happen to you and the house of cards took a temporary tumble. As new drivers especially want to try to make at least that 1 year mark with one company, I give you a lot of credit for using your head to safeguard your CDL and keeping the company's bad equipment from tarnishing your record.
You also shouldn't have to put up with a trainer that is unprofessional, unclean, and not concentrated on his job.
I'm undergoing a similar "injustice", as I was let go recently from an employer for standing up for safety violations and other negative conditions.
Try to use this time to "regroup", and move on to a better company,, one without this senseless BS. I wish you success!blairandgretchen and joseph1135 Thank this. -
Thanks Joseph.. and you are right, some men dont get it, but, there are also some really nice and good men out there as well.. and, I am sure you have met some women drivers who could step up on their hygiene and moral conduct...
Happy Holidays to you as well...blairandgretchen and SheepDog Thank this. -
well call me sally, cause i dont get it either --no reason to not have time to take a shower. Yes, once in while you might miss one but not for numerous days.
First question i think a newbie should ask a trainer is "What can i bring with me and what are your rules ?" second question: Will we be taking showers regularly ? (separately unless you are really digging your trainer) and do you use your truck as an outhouse? ask questions and ask him /her if they have any.
You will probably feel the need to do what and go with whoever the Company wants to send you with to get the job.
But you can decline and ask tactfully to be put in with someone else, on the other hand dont be so picky that you need the trainer to have teeth or smell like flowers. LOLbergy and Space Man Spiff Thank this. -
I had a trainer that thought getting in the shower no soap was showering.I told him nicely he had a bad case of bo.I didn't wanna trade him in because he was a real good trainer. From then on he showered the correct way.
"Hang - Man" and Truckergirl0720 Thank this. -
Ladies, you owe men nothing. You need not now to them or anything else. You don't owe them sex, you don't have to stay in the kitchen, etc. And if anyone is going to come at you with that archaic BS just walk away and hold your head up knowing you're better than that and better than the "women" who put up with it.
Another thing, KW, be proud of what you did and realize getting let go from that company was a blessing in disguise. There's no reason to ever drive unsafe equipment, especially now with the CSA and PSP. At the end of the day you're walking away with a clear conscience. No shame in that game. Looking for a better job is temporary. Killing someone isn't. You did the right thing.pattyj, Truckergirl0720, TruckDuo and 1 other person Thank this.
