Hi. When I drain my air tanks completely, do I need to chock wheels?
1 driver said no. Another said yes or truck is unstable. Thanks

As long as your brakes are set you don’t.

Assuming of course they are in good enough condition to hold the vehicle. Use chocks as an added layer of protection.

An interesting and gut dumping video on safety. Youtube. Caterpillar. Shaking hands with danger.

What are the differences between the newer air dryers and the ad9?

Is there a real benefit to a newer model? Is there a real benefit that's worth the extra money for the newer model I should say.

I bought a haldex reman from Napa on sale for $130...

I like this one on my ‘72 White.
Still works like a champ after 49 years. Ultra rare AD-1 Uses later AD-2 desiccant cartridge and purge valve with seperate purge storage tank. (AD-2 has tank built in on top and adds 10”or 11” inches to it’s length so it is 21” tall.) Pressure builds up in purge tank when governor kicks cut-in pressure on and purges out the bottom purge valve through the catridge at cut out. Heater still works too.
AD-2 type Cartridge and purge valve maintainance kits are still available for it.

Came out late 60’s early 70’s. Not sure exact date. No one bought them due to cost back then. Only one out of every 100 trucks had one it seemed like. This is what started it all. Some real history.

Yeah I've seen them mounted under the bunk. I sure would hate changing the cartridge on one of those. Mine is hanging off the side of the frame rail in front of the right front steer tire and very easy to get at. I gave $380 for a brand new AD9 a few months ago. I still have the old one laying around. I think I could swap it for a reman AD9 and only be out about $100-$150.

My power is not hooked up to it and I run up into the cold around the Chicago area all the time. Never have an issue with it freezing up but my tanks don't ever have moisture in them either. As long as the system is dry it ain't gonna freeze.

Roger that, and there's a lot to like about the simplicity and accessibility of many things on them. Even on the T600 I used to have the air drier was located in that same exact spot. I wonder who the genius was that said let's put it under the bunk on some other trucks?!
