Swift Transportation to Halt Fleet Growth on Weak Demand, Pricing"
    ...
"Analysts said Swift’s move to halt capacity growth is aimed at bolstering freight rates amid a soft patch in the economy that has hurt transportation companies across the board."

    Trucking stocks hit reverse:
    ...
"Trucking company stocks tumbled Tuesday after several firms gave bleak outlooks for freight demand, raising fears that the industry may soon need to cut shipping rates.
... Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc., which operates a midsize LTL fleet, cut its guidance for future profits and revenue on Monday, citing weak demand and “aggressive pricing activity,” indicating lower rates offered by its competitors.
... A prolonged downturn would likely result in a surplus of available trucks, forcing carriers to cut prices as they compete for fewer loads, analysts say, a battle for business that would weigh on profitability."

Maybe this is why none of the truck manufacturers will be at Louiseville next year.

    There's always a market fluctuation.
The Mega companies control most of what moves for how much.
They saturate the market with trucks moving cheap freight and the rates drop accordingly.
Once the rates get down so far they scream recession and downsize just enough for the market to bounce back.
Plus DAT is biased, they don't always list the true market value of all companies.
    Just a little FYI.:)

Don't get your hopes up too much on that. Somebody mentioned elsewhere today they spec'd a new dry van and there's an 8 month backlog of orders for new trailers. That's with trucking in the toilet. Last year at this point it was a 4 to 5 month backlog and freight was, relatively speaking, smoking hot. Who knows how long that kind of demand can last with freight/rates as they are though?

Boat demand is down to China going into a recession.
They grew their economy too fast revolving around the US market needs.
Of course the experts will tell you China is a powerhouse but they're basing it on outdated market info.
Rail traffic is based on Truck traffic, after all you can't rail right to the warehouse/stores.

    ramblingman and Hegemeister Thank this.

If things turn around next spring prices won't drop. I don't expect things to turn around so soon though. I expect it to get worse until 2017. Just my O.
