Portable guys mostly use Haenni wheel load scales. It takes a two man crew less than 10 min. to weigh a standard 18 wheeler. Haenni's are very accurate, and tough as nails to boot.
its time the dot make the shippers have scales on their properties

The Kraut Thanks this. -
Well in light of what happened with Marten Transport recently and the new anti coercion laws that went into effect, some of these shippers do need to be held accountable when they knowingly try to pass an overweight load on to a driver. It isn't worth getting those fines and associated points on your license- regardless if your employer pays the overweight tickets or not.

No fines, No points, Done.
What am I missing??? -
-
Point 1: so don't haul their $#!+ ... or don't haul for a company that wants to haul their $#!+ ... Or tell them it won't get shipped if they don't take something off. (push back, professionally)
Point 2: point taken ... but if that truly is the case, (overweight at dot with no scale between shipper and them) they might work with you in that specific case. (Maybe... If you get the right guy)
Point 3: (see point 1)
So, I do see your point #2 (maybe), but the other two ... well ... there are more options than "get a ticket" or "install scales everywhere".
With Respect,

States that are cracking down on overweight trucks include:
Virginia
Maryland
Connecticut
North Carolina (weigh in motion)
South Carolina (weigh in motion)
Georgia
Florida (+ agricultural inspection stations)
Ohio
Alabama
Kentucky
Tennessee (just about done rebuilding their scale houses)
Louisiana
Mississippi
New Jersey -
It costs $200 or so in parts to have fairly accurate pressure gauges put on a truck AND trailer. Done, quit whining.
