Because it is some sort of magic weapon. The caltrop has been in use since before Alexander the Great to impede charging troops- mainly horses but they are also effective at weakening phalanx and shield walls. They are typically hard to see until one is stepping on them, as they tend to be only 2-3 inches. One of the things that makes it so effective is no matter how it lands, there is always a spike sticking up. As a charging horse steps on one, it will generally fall and as it falls it will oftentimes throw the caltrop back towards the second line, either hitting something on the fly or essentially 'reloading' itself.

In this case, odds are that the one from the steer is the same one that ended up in the sidewall. Total height off the ground could be less than an inch and still puncture an otherwise healthy tire, particularly if it hits in the tread.

And no one's attacking you. You keep insisting that the driver was incompetent and we keep saying, "nah, I probably wouldn't have found it either".

If your referring to my using the word arrogance don’t sweat it. We all exhibit arrogance to some extent and most times we don’t even recognize we did so. It really wasn’t meant to be insulting but more to direct your thinking to a slightly different approach.

Think about a tire shop pulling the valve stem which has a much larger hole . How long before it’s flat . Yes this guy ran over the devices but it was most likely before he stopped or he pulled forward then stopped for awhile before moving again.

I'm sorry but you keep making excuses for a driver's half-assed job. If those are 3 inches big there's no way he could have missed all of them. There were apparently three tires that means at least two wheel ends were missed.

Also, name calling and insults are attacks. Like I said before, a difference in opinion does not justify such actions. Respect our differences or move along.

Smug and "bully" was tossed out there too. I appreciate the clarification. There's still an obvious consorted effort here to nearly force me into changing my tune about the lousy pre-trip (if one was done at all). So many people (some respectfully) have tried to sway my view but when that didn't work it turned into verbal attacks.

This is extremely strange and bizarre behavior. Is this what things are turning into? Someone says something the mob disagrees with so we must "beat" him into submission or punish him until he tows the line?

Go though and read how many times these magic weapons have changed shape. The mob is doing everything it can to "direct my thinking to a slightly different approach". That's really creepy and 1984-like.

I can count on one hand how many times I've seen anyone actually put their head behind a wheel during a pre-trip. 99 percent of drivers just don't do a good job. If that offends people then I can only figure they're probably one of those guys.

Many of them are just on autopilot. They have their routine and just mosey through it without even thinking. There could be an issue and they wouldn't even notice it because they're just going through the motions.

I've gone behind drivers in the past and found obvious things like leaking hub caps, low tire pressures, burnt out lights, no washer fluid just to name a few. These are really basic things that are difficult to miss.

Don't even get me started on the more in depth things that should be checked that nobody does because they are afraid to bend over or take a knee.

I'm an "ash" because you don't agree with me. Welcome to the mob. In fact, you've been following me around just to make fun of my name since I joined. You are the dictionary definition of a bully. I've had enough of your antics. It's sad but I have to block you.
