far as i read though the forums. it depends on company policy if they allow that. its possible to let you take thier truck home. but if you own a semi truck then oviously you can. hope this helps with truck home part lol.

There you go! Werner should be much better! :biggrin_25523: Stay away from the mega carriers and this won't happen. Unless US is paying you to wait I would tell them to "kick rocks"! Go find yourself a good smaller mom and pop company. Your chances of success will be much greater. Quit messing around with the Mega's! Just going to cost you time and money!

Well just when I was about to call werner, usxpress called me and said some people have upgraded to their own truck so trainers are more available so. They think I might get a trainer this week. *crosses fingers* I will wait and se if this happens cuz I really would like to team up with someone and also I like the automatics.

I have a friend who won't leave them because of that one item, even though he says he's treated like crap, gets terrible runs and hasn't made a decent check in weeks...That one thing wouldn't keep me due to the others...

This is the kind of thinking that drives me nuts. Can't you drive a stick???? When I got out of driving school I had a job within a week. I took a load of lumber to minneapolis. I had to do it on my own. I had to deal with the chicken coops, and border, and a different country. All of this was new to me and I had no one to show me the ropes, I had to learn it the hard way. And learned I did.
Sink or swim, that was on my mind 20 years ago. I decided to swim. What is wrong with you new drivers today?? Always need someone to hold your hand.
If you can't run with the big dogs then stay on the porch. It's no wonder this industry went to crap.
Learn to drive the truck. I did. This may seem a little hard but it's the truth.

Another part that bothers me is all the whining, suck it up. Get to know how you run the best and don't let dispatch bully you. I run between 5 and 8, or 9 in Canada. I do NOT run at night. Ever. I tell this to every new company and they get it and leave me alone.

that's the same way i was taught back in '77, all they wanted to know is could i drive their trucks. they had 10 sp cabovers. they gave me the bills & said you have 2 1/2 days to get to Boston from Eagle Grove, Ia, get your map & go, call in every morning to see where you are. Not like today with your gps & auto's. If you can't drive a stick than your limiting your self for other driving jobs.

I got a trainer in two days with USX, my wife had to wait 3 weeks. We started orientation on January 3rd. 5 out of the 19 in orientation were new drivers and as of last week, all had trainers. The experienced drivers were all given trucks in Irvine and were out that week. Who is your training coordinator? Some are better than others. It can also depend on you trainer preferences. My wife had a hard time because she was female and a non-smoker.

He is not a "pre-approved" applicant. He went through orientation and was hired. Different situation.

Also, the weather over the last few weeks has really slowed the training down. You have to get the hours to upgrade and there are a lot of trucks sitting today.
