I've put my time in, who pays the most and who runs with faster trucks

i have two trucks (2005 freightliner columbia) same spec's detroits 10speeds 358 rears one driver drives 62mph and the 2nd driver drives 72mph both drive 30,000 miles a quarter the truck that drives 72 gets 5.2mpg and the truck that does 62 gets 6.2mpg thats a mile to the gal at $4.00 a gal fuel i save $20,000 a quarter on the slower truck...........you dothe math

 

Please continue with loads hauled and actual profits.

 

Its nice to drive a fast truck, but that changes when YOU start paying the fuel bill.

On average for every mile per hour you slow you gain .1mpg just from wind drag. Don't believe me? LOOK IT UP!

 

You pull a bullrack, I would expect no less! LOL!

 

I run from our yard in Toledo, OH out to Clearfield, PA in 4hrs 50 min- 4hr 55 min depending how heavy the load is. 620 paid miles, the odometer reads 616. Been doing this run for years the same way every night. Bad weather is the only thing that makes the run longer than 10 hrs driving round trip. I'll have to look at my e-log tonight and let you know what the average speed reads, it is over 60 though. I run the OH pike and I-80 in PA, my speed under 65 is only @10 miles each way.

You probably wouldn't believe the kind of money I make while still being home everyday either.

 

I'm up near clearfield alot slowpoke, nice easy running across I80 from clearfield to the ohio line.

Heh, didn't think you could back it up. This conversation has already been had on here anyway. One guy saying running 65 was better, one guy saying catching more loads was better. Both posted numbers, faster guy had more profit after expenses. Makes sense since the only way you wouldn't make more was if the loads you were hauling were to cheap to cover the fuel.

 

Am I reading this right you get 4.5 empty at 65 but 6.5 loaded at 70 how's that possible and off the subject how's knight treating you these days

 

I'm not trying to defend anyone but if both his trucks are running the same number of miles the amount the load is passing really doesn't matter the faster truck is costing more money to the tine of 20k and with no e-logs I'm sure there are no extra loads since you only loose a hour or less on a 500 mile trip but as a co driver most don't care about fuel even the small companies like mine are slowing there just my two cents
