ok maybe i was off some the fast truck used almost 1,000 gal more than the slow truck fuel average last quarter $3.75 a gal so yes its $3,750 a quarter but its still $15,000 a year in my hand
-
I know it was a mistake, just trying to figure out how i could save 20,000.00/truck/quarter.
-
in some cases i could see the faster truck making more money but were only talking 55 miles less than a hour? yes the faster truck would make more money but my shippers are not open 24/7 so the fast driver gets a hour more time to mess around thats all
if it was load for load the fast truck would make at $2 a mile about $348 more a week not my numbers just saying -
We got cut back from 75 to 67-68. Whatever the truck feels like doing that day. Not really a big issue like I thought it was. It's a little more relaxing to be honest and except for in the 75 states I still pass the same trucks as usual and I'm not worried about getting a ticket. Faster isn't always better as I've learned.
Markvfl Thanks this. -
10 mph X's 11 HRS/day X's 6 days = 660 extra miles run per week.on the flats in say Ohio I can keep a steady speed and pretty much don't stop all day. he earned you an extra days haulage!! I'm one of those paid by load. 500 HP Volvo no gov .co truck, I like the extra load per week
-
Ah, a regular route thing. Yeah, at $3700 a quarter I'd look into getting the ecm's flashed to improve the mileage further on both of them or something. I can't say cut the truck down cause I drive the same way but I see what you're saying.
Now multiply that by a year and a 75 truck fleet with more freight than they can possibly haul year round. Add in that the whole fleet is cut down to 65, they have O/O's that are unlimited, and they like to send out msgs on the QC complaining about how bad the fleet mileage is while bragging about the O/O's having a full mpg better average. The O/O's were not running slow. They were passing me on the highway like I was standing still. Then passing me again going the other way with another load already hooked when I was still 20 miles from the yard. -
No, I get 4.5 loaded and 6.4 mpg empty. This week I managed 7.5 empty, and got a whopping 3.5mpg loaded. That 3.5mpg came from a lot of start-stopping, from traffic stopping to make left turns, slowing waaaay down for idiots pulling out in front of me.
Knight I would have to say is above par, comparing to a lot of smaller companies. The pay may not be all that great, (this week I've made $200 a day) and they do have their faults. But they maintain the equipment, and keep us running. I've been with them now since Nov 2011, and I should be driving my new 2012 KW T800 within the next couple of weeks. Instead of the aluminum tanks, steps, catwalk, he ordered them with chrome. The other drivers that are getting new trucks got to choose the color they wanted. However since I'm the newbie, I didn't get to. He ordered mine-- GREEN, I guess since I'm a green-horn, rookie..

im gonna brag. my company truck runs 80 and im #### proud of that. with the exception of the owner ops, our company trucks are probably the fastest ones out there today. yeah, i prowl around in the left lane.
if you have been in tennessee or virginia and had a white volvo stroke on by you at 70 or above, chances are it was one of our trucks.
we are set at 80 on the pedal because we run the west coast. i could not ever imagine going through west texas and arizona where the speed limit is 75 or higher for the trucks and being stuck at 62. id shoot myself or something. the last time i ran to california, the number of trucks i passed was astronomical.
the company i work for is run by one of the tightest penny pinching SOBs that ever lived. no fuel bonus, no mileage bonus, no health insurance, no 401k, drivers are paid with 1099 and the owner is making money hand over foot. i dont care about his fuel mileage. that truck will idle till the day the motor locks up. he even went out and bought 10 brand new 2012 VNL Volvos. he can do that but not pay a single cent into a bonus package? screw him. he is sticking it to every driver so i dont care about the mpg factor. if he cared, the trucks would not run 80 either. thats my 2 cents on that issue. -

Wounder why? I think you need to keep your 2 cents cuz theres no way you have much more than that.
Do you really put up with all that just so you can drive fast??? WOWsteelbeltsdrumming Thanks this.
