Which one, there are 2 different Target Dedicated, then there is Family Dollar, Gordon Paper, Weyerhaueser, Team IBS, & there may be one or two more that I'm forgetting.
You let me know which one and I'll give you the scoop - unless it's a new account. I use to work all those dedicated gigs out of Virginia & Maryland. I even got some scoop on some in NJ, PA, Ct, & NY. -
Good deal man, It doesn't matter which one. I just wanted some info on the routes and what not, also if they pay pretty good. Was they a good place to work for? did you like it? Thanks man

Destroyers of your DAC... The Wrecking Crew of Careers.

Miles of Truckin:
I worked for JB for over 5 years and I have to say that they were very good to me. There will be some things that you don't like about any job but its all in what YOU make it. I enjoyed my time there and left for my own personal reasons. I would recommend them despite all the critics on here. As we all know there are 2 sides to every story & then there is the truth!
Family Dollar is based in Winchester Va. & is the highest paying account per mile in Virginia but you earn every penny. It is hand unload freight # Family Dollars which means backing down inner city alley ways, tight spaces not meant for trucks and parking lots. They run VA, MD, NJ, NY, OH, WV, NC, & maybe a few other states. It's a floor load, sometimes overweight, top to bottom and front to back of the trailer. You use rollers to unload into the stores which are sometimes slow - after all these are minimum wage people and sometimes they don't even show up on time. It can be a nightmare at times. This is not an account for everyone and sometimes the office staff can be real you know what's! They usually run about 60+ trucks & are considered Regional because your only out a week so weekends off.
Team IBS is also based out of Winchester, Va. They are both drop/hook & some hand unload at jobsites but all they haul is a styrofoam type product which is obviously very light weight. These guys go all over the north east but they also have local positions if your wanting to stay home more. This was a fairly new account with a new manager (young guy) who didn't seem to be all there but it's a good account as far as work goes. Originally there were only a couple of local positions and I think 4 sleepers. Local guys are home nightly and regionals may seem home once or twice a week but are only out a week at a time.
Home Depot is out of Winchester, Va. & delivers to all the stores within Virginia, they are predominantly a local account. They are no touch freight and mostly drop and hook with a few live unloads. Home Depot is very demanding & picky which means it's a headache to deal with them. You also have to slip seat with other drivers so the equipment tends to suffer. They run 24hrs/6 days a week so you will run all your hours available. They just moved into a new facility right before I left and were talking about adding more trucks but were running around 40 - 50 trucks. We also run the yard so if you like spotting trailers then there is that option available once you get there and work the account for a few months. The office staff means well but is under pressure from Home Depot and sometimes that spills out to the drivers so it has it's good days and bad.
Target Store delivery is in Stuarts Draft, Va. & delivers directly to the stores (drop/hook). They pretty much stay right there in VA, MD, WV, more of a regional deal. You may get home once or twice during the week depending on the schedule. They have really good people at this account and we also run the yard there so if you wanted to be a yard jockey you could possibly talk to them about it once your there if a position is available. They usually run about 60+ trucks. I'm not exactly sure on the pay.
Target OTR is in Suffolk, Va. & delivers just to the distribution centers & is also just drop & hook but you may have live load backhauls. They also run into problems over the weekends keeping you moving because Target doesn't work of the ships don't come into port or there is just an overall lack of empty trailers at the D.C.'s. The account staff isn't bad here either - they have their good days and bad. They were running about 400 drivers in the peak season - probably down to 300 with the economy now. They are considered an OTR account and you are required to be out 2 weeks with one day off for every week out. You start out around $0.39 cpm & top out # $0.41 cpm.
Gordon Paper is out of Virginia Beach & hauls just that - paper; so expect very heavy loads and you will spend some time at the docks waiting to get unloaded. They delivery all over the North & South East. There are only two managers at this account and both were pretty cool when I was there. This could have changed by now but it's a pretty laid back deal. They only have 12 drivers total and are a regional account so you will be home weekly.
Weyerhaueser is a flatbed deal out of Richmond, Va. and they also run local and regional trucks. I think we had about 4 or 5 locals and then 4 or 5 regionals. They are not a big account and most of the drivers there are senior drivers (5+years with JB) and while the pay is not all that good ($0.36 cpm) the work and the account itself is pretty sweet but then I have a preference for flatbed. The Regionals are home weekly and you may also see home once or twice during the week depending on where you live.
It all depends on where you live. You must be within a 50 mile radius for most accounts except Target OTR because they are OTR! All pay is by the mile so that kinda sucks sometimes but it is what it is. There is some extra pay at each account like tarping, extra stops, detention, layover, etc. I've been gone just over a year now so some things could have changed as far as pay, office staff, routes, etc. I'm sure the economy has played some havoc with them as well in that there may not be alot of miles right now at some of the accounts.
They do a lot of training every quarter and a briefing every month which can sometimes seem like over kill buts all about liability and covering their butt's. The Northeast as a whole probably has the highest paying accounts in all the company but look at the traffic and area that your driving in. The good thing about them would be that they are not going anywhere anytime soon. They are a solid company and seem to be picking up business when others are going out. When I left they were the number one dedicated carrier in the U.S. with Cardinal coming in second & Ryder logistics third.
Good luck no matter which way you go - I hope all this info helps and I'm sorry it took awhile to get back to you. -
Hey thanks for the info man, i think ima hold out for now. Got a couple of things lined up at the moment, so ima see where they go. Worse case ill give them a call and see what all they got and what not.

10-4 Miles...I don't know where your at in Virginia but if your anywhere up near Manassas - I'd recommend checking out Martin Brower. They are a union outfit but they start out at like $19.00 hr, 1.5 after 8, $1.00 raise within the first year & great benefits. They deliver to all the Mcdonalds & Chipotles'. It's all local work or it was when I worked there. They had a couple of overnights out to the Eastern Shore but they would pay for the hotel. Just a thought!
If your down near Va Beach I would check into the other food distro's like US Foods. Out in Roanoke I would recommend NB Handy, they are an HVAC & Sheet Metal delivery company (I worked for them back in Atlanta) and they are a decent company.
Alright, well I've rambled enough, again - good luck dude!Miles_Of_Truckin Thanks this. -
Do anybody know about the Home Depot account for J.B. Hunt out of Winchester,VA...like pay, running radius and etc.
