Hey guys so it seems when my jake brakes goes out eh cruise goes out with it. My 2001 Freightliner Colombia with Detroit Series 60 has had this problem before and I took it into a shop that rewired the cruise control system and charged me about $250. Well a few weeks later I had the same problem and went back to the same shop that fixed the problem again ( but this time no charge). Well last week same problem, both went out on me. Both were working fine till I got to Salt Lake City and made my delivery but when I made a stop at Flying J to eat and wanted to get going again both cruise and Jake brake went out on me.
So my question is..do both systems work together? Does one going out automatically shut down the other?
Jake brake and cruise control .

I have seen where the clutch pedal / foot brake pedal need tp be touched by foot to re engage/ reset the cruise and jakes .
Try this going down the road , get up tp hwy speed , tap the clutch pedal where the free play is and then set cruise and see if it will work . The cruise and Jakes may just work .
Good luck -
It probably has somthing to do with the clutch switch as it is an input for both the cruise and the jakes so they shut off when the pedel is pushed. I would start by looking at the switch itself.

they both use Alot of the same switches, speed sensor, park brake switch, service brake switch, tps sensor. any of these switches could be bad.

great, thank you for all the info. now i know it is the same problem and i don't have to dish out for diff. problems.

+1 for the clutch switch. Only thing that will kill both at the same time. When you are parked with the yellow buttonout , if your cruise is still able to bump up engine speed, (PTO mode) then your entire cruise control wiring and switches are fine.
double yellow and Big Duker Thank this. -
We have a 2007 peterbilt 378. The cluth switch is set up too close and it shuts off the cruise control when you hit a bump. Can someone tell me where it is located. I tried to look under the cab to see where it could be located but could not see any switch or wiring.

Been having this problem on my KW , but only when it's cold , and I've shut down for awhile. I've got an ISX . Guys at KW , both parts and service , say its the accelerator position sensor. Darn thing is $150.00 . Installing it tomorrow , if I can. ( 6-12 inches of snow forecast .) I Hope that's it ! Once I open the package , its mine.
I asked about the clutch pedal switch , they said its probably not it. They don't sell many clutch pedal switches , but sell a bunch of accelerator switches.
Course , its a KW . Yours might be different.
Good Luck ! -
