The two best no jake brake zones are Boulder, Nevada coming up from the dam. 40 MPH on WTF grade where the local poleece DARE you to do it when the time zone prohibits.
The other is near the bottom of Raton Pass coming into Raton, NM. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee hit 90 or better.
Better to have truck in living room than some jake noise. That one I have yet not too use my jake.
It's the clowns with the 8" pipes that create the situation for all of us. Perhaps they own stock in the companies that make brake pads, I don't know.

No where is anyone saying not to use it on those hairy downhills. But using it just to use it is dumb.

I lived on a 30 mph curve almost 20 years. The gas rigs jaked through the night.

If they were not jaking and coming on with the whine of wheels, tires and horsepower my ears perked up ready to hear a rollover which we do have several times a year. FLOP CRASH Scatter.

As long that Jake is rolling while they work through the downshifts I don't even notice.

Im a jake man myself and frankly old school. That thing is going. If you cannot stand it living next to the 10% downgrade, this is a free country. Move and live somewhere else.

I think there's a big difference between "living near a triuck route" and drivers rapping their unmuffled engine brakes for some strange reason.Petty power trip, I have Jakes, so you must bow down - holding your ears? What's so hard about being considerate of your fellow human beings, the other American citizens you're impacting? Why do you make it harder for all the truckers who are trying to be cooperative, what's in it for you, eh Hoser?

When I was driving in the '80's, we were "the gentlemen of the highways." And it was more like that most of the time. (trucks were still big, loud machines) Stop and help someone, even non-truckers. Be considerate passing or turning, not so much tailgating or intimidation - gentlemen of the highways.

Those days are over. Maybe thanks to guys like Tucker, who think the world revolves around them. It doesn't.

I thought the world revolved around me once. But it was just the tequila kicking in.

I once had that same thought, and there was some tequila - among other things.

That downhill from the border crossing at Nogales to I-29 gives those Mexican drivers a whole lot of fun, rapping their unmuffled Jakes all the way down. It does sound pretty good.

I parked next to a reefer today, a spot I planned on spending the night, the reefer is still here, I can hear it now.
    Oh well
