EV's are here to stay. Like any other new idea, there's gonna be some bugs to work out. I think it's been pretty well proven that they work as well as needed.

As everyone else stated, the infrastructure needed to recharge is the problem. And even if they'd put charging stations on every street corner, the current power grid couldn't possibly handle the extra load.

I love hearing people complaining about recharging these things though. "Oh my God it will take an hour to charge the #### battery!"..... Well, I just sat in line for half an hour at a fuel station this morning waiting for all the Bozo's waddling inside for their Big Gulps and roller grill heart attack after they pumped their fuel and were too lazy and inconsiderate to pull ahead.

I didn't say it would be. I think I said the opposite, but are you trying to say that taxpayers haven't slowly built the fossil fuels infrastructure over the last hundred years? How many different kinds of taxes do you pay to fuel and roll your truck down the road? All goes to government in my mind and government builds infrastructure. Not all of it but a lot of it.

Yep, you didn't see the government out there building gas stations on every corner, it was private enterprise.
The same should go for EV charging stations. Let private enterprise build and maintain. And add a Federal Kwh tax on the charging, just like the gas tax.

No, the taxpayers did not build gas stations or truck stops, the private sector did.
As far as roads go, we pay fuel taxes and excise taxes that fund the highway infrastructure.
I’m waiting for someone to explain how the EV ‘s are going to be taxed?

they are not a new idea, EVs have been around since 1899. They were used a lot in the hauling business until the 1940s.

Cars could just pay a use tax based off the miles they drive. IFTA already has a calculation for commercial vehicles.

I agree, I think we're kind of splitting hairs because infrastructure is too general a term. I understand that the private sector builds fuel stations and of course the government maintains the roads, both are infrastructure. But the government, as I understand it, keeps the power grid going selling power to private companies and citizens. I don't personally know the details of how it all works but I've always understood the petroleum industry to be about the same as the power companies, very in bed with the government, mostly because of the land that is mined, drilled and where power lines run is largely on federal land or leased by the government or TO the government, in lots of cases.

I don't know how EV's will be taxed either but surely they will be, and EV trucks even more I'm sure.
