I have to admit I am obsessed with mileage. Even in my Mustang, I get absolutely giddy when I see the average mileage go up .1 mpg! Just wait til I learn to "drive" the fuel gauge in a truck! WOO HOO!!

I don't have a turbo gauge.
But I am idling right now, I'm hoping with the APU in a month it'll get a lot better.
Going to try working on my shifting. I do have a habit of shifting at 15k, so going to try and back that down a bit. -

I know it might not seem to big but shut the truck off every chance you can. Going into the T/S or dinner, turn it off. The ac and heater are big enough to bring the cab temp back up quick. Some drivers leave there trucks running while they are fueling. Let alone the safety factor but it just wasts fuel.

Im still workin on my mpgs too. With the heavy load I had I was fighting to get into the mid 6's. I was battling hills, gravity, and wind. Nothing I could do would get it back up. Goin to try again though. Since Im not getting any real hometime, Im just goin to leave back out tommorow

guess its about time i say something here.
regarding mpg. i know i have room for improvement. on-ramps i dont slack off the fuel. get up to speed asap. but i do watch my rpm's try to keep it below 1200 when up-shifting, and let it get down to about 900 when down-shifting. truck is limited to 57mph, but i set cruise at 54, assuming i have the time. 57 if i dont. downhills, i let it go, but keep it down to the speed limit, (mostly). little to no idling. bunk heater works great for keeping truck warm. i do allow it to "warm up" before taking off, and "cool down" at end of shift. and yes i average between 7.6 and 8.5 depending on geography. and yes i keep a close eye on my tires. still playing with weight distribution to figure optimal balance. but try to follow ip's suggestion to be heavier on the drives. just playing with the percentage, as possible.
still learning so this is not an experienced suggestion, just what i am doing currently. learning as i go. one of those things that trainers did not cover.
