Since I brought it up, it's only fair Inadd this info about HSA insurance, such as that offered by Jim Palmer / Wil -Trans.

The money you pay each pay-period accumulates in an account that you own. You can spend that money for medical expenses. If you don't spend it it accumulates until you spend it. It rolls over from year to year & doesn't disappear.

I may be mistaken, but once you have accumulated your deductible or out of pocket amount I believe they stop deducting from your paycheck. Either way, unlike conventional health insurance, if you don't use your contributions they still belong to you. It's a savings account. Your medical savings account.

I got my CDL through a private trucking company. The state paid half. I paid the other portion (about 2500). JP still wanted me to sign a contract because I was a student driver anyway (no experience with CDL yet).

HSAs are a scam used by employers to pass off the costs of health insurance/expenses to the employee. It's nothing more than a tool to reduce the cost to the employer (and value to the employee) of an important employee benefit.

I would avoid any company running this con on its employees

A HSA is money you put aside separate from the weekly premium. Which can be used to pay for your co pays, prescriptions, etc.

No, employers paying for employee health insurance was a scam. It was a scam because it was how companies could get around wage & price limitations during WWII. The Feds froze wages & prices but employers couldn't find enough employees with the skills so they added health insurance. Then over time, once people got used to someone else paying for their insurance, the prices started to skyrocket. Many entrepreneurs prefer HSAs because the money stays under their name and if they are healthy the "premiums" they pay don't disappear into thin air like when you pay for health insurance but remain healthy and don't need any service.

Why don't employers pay for your car insurance or your homeowners insurance or cable TV? Employer provided or assisted health insurance is a leftover of govt regulations and severe labor shortages during wartime. If I was an employer I wouldn't volunteer to pay for employee health insurance unless I could enforce their lifestyle choices to keep them from costing me money.

Jim Palmer still pays 40CPM plus 5CPM fuel bonus. Fuel bonus is paid weekly or monthly. Based on your MPG you get 0-5CPM added to your pay. Jim Palmer runs West Coast to Midwest and back,. They are a reefer outfit that contracts to pull Prime, Inc loads. All the trucks have APU & inverters 1500 watt or higher. 62 mph trucks. JP has an average trip length of 1300 miles. Company pays all tolls, use e-logs, if you want to pay the monthly subscription they will install satellite TV on your truck. You stay out 3 weeks and earn 1 day off for each week out. Jim Palmer of Missoula, MT is owned by Wil-Trans of Springfield, MO. Wil-Trans, Jim Palmer, and O&S Trucking are owned by Wilson Logistics which is a family owned business. All reports indicate the company is friendly and treats you like family. Jim Plamer & Wil-Trans, and presumably O&S Trucking, hire from all 48 states. Jim Palmer & Wil-Trans have CDL schools in Missoula & Springfield.
