I was also employed by JKat. Drivers need to know that it is just not JKat that had problems. These problems stemmed all the way back to November 2006 when Leroy and Paul were co-owners of a company called Mountain Star. They changed the name and moved locations a couple of times to try to outrun their outstanding bills. They closed the doors and didn't pay the employees their money unless they joined another company called MAJ which was also owned by Leroy and Paul. I wouldn't go over the road, so they bounced a payroll check and didn't pay me my final check. One month later I got a call from John , who was my supervisor and accounting dept head, who offered to pay me the $2000 they owed me if I would hire on to a dedicated run for them. I did. About 8 months later Leroy had to fire John for embezzlement of about $40,000. Within 2 months he found out that was also embezzling money by having delivery payments sent to his own account. Another $10,000 or so. Leroy got rid of Paul and closed MAJ and transferred everything to his privately owned JKat. It wasn't enough. Payrolls started to bounce. Fuel became difficult to get. Repairs were almost impossible.
Now don't get me wrong. They owe me about $1800 and I would like to see it, but Leroy is now driving a truck to make his living. Paul and John have joined together and are brokering as well as running their own trucks. They tried to get me to drive for them in a piece of junk. I don't want to drive for thieves. Also, let me make this clear: All info listed here is information that I received from dispatchers (who also lost pay), drivers and mechanics. I worked for the combination of companies for 3 years as a local driver. I think I can say I have a good handle on what happened there.
