Just a simple (I think anyway) question. How important is accurate job history on applications? I know in other fields/industries it's not a big deal, but it seems like in the trucking industry it is very much investigated by companies. Which I guess is required by DOT regulations.
Are you required to give completely accurate job history dates, or is approximation usually good enough? Surely they don't expect you to have exact dates for jobs as far back as 10 years ago. I gave them a rough job history (probably within a few months accuracy), and accurate phone numbers and addresses so they could further investigate. Maybe this won't effect me being hired by these companies.

must be accurate. If you are new to driving you should only need to go back 3 years for most companies

Well how in the hell do you get that accurate of a history. Some of the companies I applied with did ask for a 5 or 10 year history. I see this being especially difficult in my case where some of those companies are now out of business. Then there are a few gaps in between jobs where I was not employed and in school. It would take me a week to get all of these dates gathered up. Oh well. Maybe it won't keep me from getting hired. I already know a few of the beginner mills/companies have already approved my hire. I was going Stevens, but after further reading about some of the nightmares, and the way they do things there, I decided to stay away from them.

It's not really the DOT regs that you need to pay attention to on apps. Trucking has artificially engineered a driver shortage and there are so many people graduating from trucking schools that companies are getting their pick of the best. That means lean, scared, skinny "Yes" men willing to do anything a trucking company demands- with no hesitation, without questioning authority, with complete confidence in the company.
Your willingness to beg for a job on your knees by submitting a flawless record of your past (which will immediately be ignored once it is "approved") is your first test of loyalty to the company. Next you will be humiliated with drug testing, personal questions, a quick background check and an interview.
Once you are approved, you might be hired.
Once you're hired they might keep you.
Once you pull a load they will start looking for a reason to fire you before your pay starts to escalate so they can replace you with another low paid, scared, overly compliant "Yes" man.
So be perfectly honest and exactly accurate on your app.RickG Thanks this. -
I am going to FFE, they only require 3 years. Can't really speak to other cos. I've beentold if your work history isn't right they won't accept you.I've had some periods of unemployment too. They require some paperwork if you collected unemployment or severance. I had severance. I sent bank statements showing my direct deposits. Your recruiter can help you through the process based on your circumstances. I'm still a wannabe too sorry I can't be more help
Hope it works out for you -
pretty sure month and year is sufficient, as well as an explanation for any gaps.

Just do your best and tell them it's as accurate as you can possibly remember. Worked for me.

You can always call past employers up and see if they have your hire/leave dates. I called a couple and they gave me my dates and a couple didn't keep records that long so I just had to guess. -
Little funny for the troops.... When I moved down here I had to go thru the same thing. For an 8 yr period up home I was self-employed; had my own small trucking business.
One company demanded a "contact name" for that period and she got quite snotty about it. So here's what I did. I turned my hat around and said: "Yes I employed this person for 8 years. Helluva driver but a lazy SOB. I had to get him up every morning and put him to bed every night. Wouldn't eat if I didn't tell him. I recommend you do not hire him because he has a vile temper and after a couple days of your BS attitude he would likely put you in the hospital". Then I left.
Would you believe a week after I got my present position, they called and offered me a job?Awesome Possum Thanks this.
