Why not sit down and gather up your work history and put it on this thing that they call a "resume"?! Then update this "resume" thingy each time you change jobs and you'll always have an accurate work history.

It's job hunting 101 regardless of industry - keep an accurate and up to date resume.

    shawbag Thanks this.

Well as I said earlier, I have never really found a need to have an accurate job history on my resume. I've always gotten jobs fine with estimates, but this field may be different.

I had fun with my app, my last job was with my family's business that went under. Since I was under my parents in seniority at the company, they wouldn't take our general manager's contact info to verify employment. They also would not take my parents' verification, because they're my parents. Never mind you could just google our company name and my name and see it list me as VP/Mgt.

In the end they just settled for my earliest and latest paystubs. v0v silly people

    guesstimate.
    It worked for me.
Every place you list as a previous job, they send out a work verification form.
Your old employer is asked what job you had and exact dates of employment. By law they have to respond in 30 days. Once all that is gathered they approve you.

If you know some one who has their own company just have them say you worked for them the whole time. They will get a fax and a call asking dates. They respond and it goes in your file. Employment verified and your approved. People do it all the time. IN every industry and they get away with it just fine.

The only way I see it biting you in the ### if you do something really stupid like wreck your truck ( which you shouldn't do LOL) and end up in court. IN which case your WHOLE 10 years past is heavily scrutinized and you are under the scope of the feds. And if you get caught lying to them, your screwed.

So be honest and guesstimate to best of your ability. And always remember when filling out a job app or putting anything on paper, especially these days, expect it to be used against you in court if something happens. Even if it an accident that's not your fault. Be prepared to answer for what you put down and why it is what it is.

Good luck to you. I have had all kinds of issues when I started out in 2003 with my ten year. I was 23 and the was employed since I was 14. I had over 10 different jobs as I was a teen. Some for one month. Others more. Point is I had a LONG history app. So I guesstimated best I could. Then one day I sat down and started making ph calls and asking my self for exact dates to previous employments I had. I listed them and keep them to this day. All with names, numbers, addresses, and EXACT dates. True, I don't need them now cause I have had less then 5 jobs in the last 1o years. But it's cool to look at all the things I have done in life.

The whole purpose of all that is to make sure you ain't running on two CDL's or hiding an accident or other violations. Times have changed with computers, but there was a time a driver would lose his license and go to the next state and get another CDL. That or just leave that company off your next job application.

So the DOT come up with the work history thing to make sure you don't have any license revocations or hiding bad things.

I had one company ask me for a notorized statement from a neighbor verifying a one month gap in employment. Silly stuff, but it proves to the DOT I wasn't driving.

It's a pain, but you can go back and call your employers for the dates. I keep them updated on my computer. Truck driving is one job you need to keep accurate employment records along with the logbook.

I have a different situation. I want to apply for a new job after the first of the year. I have been at my present job for 10 years and know my exact start date. When the new company want to call and verify my present employer work history They may give me a bad rep because their pissed that I am leaving . They have been known to this. It's a small family owned company. Iv seen drivers give a two week notice then my boss say good bye we don't need you. Then when new employer calls for a job verification they will say he don't work here and hang up on them. This may sound made up but Iv seen it happen.
Not to brag on myself but I am the best driver they have and Iv been told that by company heads over me. So I know they will be mad when I quit. Over all a good company to work for and they treat you good but when time to leave they will but a knife in your back. The money and love is just not there anymore. Time to go. What can be done about this?

I don't know about the trucking industry, but in many other industries companies will not talk about anything other than the fact that a person worked there, give the dates they worked there and their salary information if asked.

The more "intelligent" companies won't say anymore out of fear of a lawsuit. In fact, many of them also prohibit their current employees from serving as "references" for former coworkers, for the same reason.

In other words, those companies do go into anything about the former employees job performance, attitude, etc. they just verify the objective facts, dates of employment, position held, and salary range, etc.

Based on your post, it's obviously different in the trucking industry, huh? :biggrin_2559:

I'm not worried about job performance, attitude .or attendance. Just the face that they may not verify my employment or take the max time by law to get back to the new employer.

I think approximation is good enough. Your old companies will have the right dates anyways, when they check for reference.
