Trucking companies do not have face to face interviews?
I guess that was what I was wondering about......

You handle all that preliminary paperwork, application, supporting documents drug screen usually before you even meet face to face. They check your PSP dac, criminal background and when everything checks out schedule you for orientation which will be the first face to face interview. It means you are hireable, pre-hired, some will say "they've got the job lined up" at that point. It's the smart way to quit a trucking job because all that preliminary stuff can take weeks to get out of the way then you have time to put it notice. Technically youdon't"have it in the bag" until they size you up in orientation. If you have perfect credentials and show up with an attitude you will get sent home without a job...

Thank you very much rollin coal.
In other words, poor planning makes for a poor performance.
My friend is very good at what he does (OTR) but wants to look for something with more home time.
He does not mind hard work, it is just tough out there alone.
I told him how lucky he was to have me!

Sounds like he is :D Maybe he could look to the food service industry. I think Gordon Food Service has a whse/trucks out of Battle Creek or somewhere in that area, a little far from Waterford though. It's hard work but pays well and gets drivers home nightly and weekends. Just remember he needs to quit on good terms, put in a proper notice, and have all the preliminary stuff out of the way for the new job before he quits the old. Most of the complaints from whiners on here about bad DAC's there's usually more to the story, like the driver just gets mad over an ordinary every day occurence in trucking, quits, hops a bus home and leaves a company hanging. Not that some companies dont deserve that I suppose.. but there is a right/wrong way to handle everything..

He is willing to move wherever it takes to get a good job.
Believe me, I am not tied to this place, and the weather is getting tiresome.
I was considering TN as a place to live.

My friend is very conscientious, he would not just stop and hop on a bus.
It is getting harder to put up with the BS, and be alone.
He has an excellent record, one to be proud, and I hope he finds a great job.

the way i see it why stay somewhere that ur miserable. its not worth loosing my sanity for something i know deep down in side isnt for me. its never a good idea to bounce from a job without another lined up but sometimes when u gotta go, u just gotta go. ive had prolly 6 jobs in 8.5 years. 2 of them i was at 4 years the other 4 i last a week or two. I gave it a shot i relaized it didnt feel right and i was out. im not going to lose sleep at night thinking bout a job i cant stand because in reality the company can just replace u tommorw. When u find a company that works for you, you know it. and u stay, and it makes u feel good. Im actually in that mixer now looking for my next place to call home. just gave a job a shot and i got this feeling it wasnt going to work. the home time the the money the attitude it just didnt feel right. so im out.

I don't see that as a good driver falling through a few cracks, since in the end those violations and/or accidents may have been that 'good' drivers fault.
And pushing the blame on to the company doesn't fly, because in the end the driver makes the final choice.

My company likes to push us. Our Plus-1 system is supposed to get you 'one more load per week'.
What it actually does is cut your time so close that it is nearly impossible to make it on-time, especially if you want to eat and shower and sleep and actually properly plan a trip.
It even goes so far as to adjust the load times from when you accept the pre-plan and get the actual load assignment.

My current load is a prime example.
The pplan had a delivery window of up to 08/12 0630, but the load assignment has a late delivery time of 08/11 2015.
If I ran flat out - taking a strict 10 hour sleep break, no pre-trip or any other breaks - I might just make it if I didn't have to slow down for construction or weather or accidents or... whatever.

But, what they try to push me into, I don't have to fall for.
I don't have to let myself get stressed out and start making mistakes that can lead to violations or accidents, because in the end I control how I run my truck.

So tomorrow I'll do a Mac22 telling them what time I will deliver the load. And I'll give myself plenty of time to do it safely.
The reason I'll give as to why I am running late will be that "I accepted the load with a certain window of time - and I expect the load assignment to reflect that so that I can safely do my job".
