I was wondering how you obtain employment with a new trucking company when you're driving OTR. Are you speaking with prospective new employers during your home time or on the telephone while out of town? Do you get a firm commitment from the new employer before giving notice to the current company? Do employers make employment commitments over the phone? In other words, how does the job search, hiring and employer transition work when you're away from home so much and working odd hours?

Yeah, the telephone, planes, trains, automobiles, email. Yes, I would get a firm commitment. It is called a pre-hire. It really depends on your situation and your location at the present time. I have seen some guys drive their current truck to the company that they are interested in working for! You can park your truck at a truckstop, shower and yellow cab it to your interview. Just wait till you try making a doctors appointment!
