Hey, I'm Shaun. I was wondering where or what company I could job shadow with? I am wanting to job shadow to see and make sure I am going to like it before I go into it. Any advice would help! Thanks!

might help us to know where your home location was and what your family and home-time needs may or may not be. It all factors in at some point.

First off WHERE are you?
Second it is a doable thing but remember that you have to actually do the work in making the contacts and build the relationship with the companies. I know someone who did just that, he went on his own dime worked form dispatching to the dock to learn and see where he fit.
Also we work in a regulated industry, so in order for you to ride in a truck, legally you have to be insured and this may be where you get a door or two slammed shut. Be willing to foot the hundred or so bucks for the passenger insurance and willing to sign the waiver. -

Are you looking to do a ride along to learn about driving, or did you want to learn the office side. Passenger insurance at some companies is as lieele as 10 bucks a week. If you post where you are from, I'd bet someone could help you out. You'd be better off going out with a local drive unless you want to stay out at least a week.

I'm sure you will have to pay the rider insurance. Ours is $5.25/day. Then you will have to find a company that will let anyone ride. For instance, our company will only allow a wife/husband/child/parent ride. No cousins or aunts or uncles or friends. Here is the main problem. If you are looking at riding with an OTR company, they probably wont let you. You will probably have better luck with a smaller company as far as riding goes so that you can go out and back in the same day. The problem with that is if you do that you will not TRULY see what OTR is like. You might be able to find an O/O in your area that will let you ride with them for a day or 2 but those guys can be very picky about who gets in their truck.
