Trying to get on with a major trucking company and they need job verification from one of my previous employers. Problem is that it was nine years ago and a lot has changed. Trucking company filed for bankruptcy, went out of business, owner (father) passed away, co-owner (son) is in prison and it seems like there is no way to get verification. Should I try and explain this to the new trucking company? Changed fields and had another occupation for the past 8 years.

Not sure if my situation is applicable to yours. I'm starting orientation next week and was told by the recruiter that a W-2 is sufficient for job verification.

From what I've seen so far; experience that old doesn't even count with overwhelming majority. If it does with your prospective employer; perhaps your tax records will help.

my last "carrier" was in 1994. He was an older gentleman running bullracks, hopper and anhydrous. He was OLD. Been at it for close to 40 years then.
Didn't matter. The biggy is for disclosing the last 3-5 years.
If they don't count or do count the experience as far as insurance goes, that's another thing.
The company I just hired on to, accepted all of it. From 1990 on. Got that call today at 2PM.
