jobless because of Ozark Trucking

    Recently my husband and I gave up a job at Trans am trucking
    because we were tired of drviving for free. We called Ozark, they
    faxed my husband a one page app while we were on the road.
    it asked for felonies ONLY! Rick, my husband listed his only felony from 1996
    on the app. Tommy wilson, the recruiter said he was good to go!
    So, I followed him to Olathea KS to turn in our truck to trans am then
    we drove to memphis TN. About 1000 miles round trip. After completing
    his physical and drug screen and lettting sit through almost a whole
    day of orientation, they said they could not hire him!!!!!
    We live in our truck. Its our home. So now we are jobless and
    Homeless. It just boggles my mind how trucking companies
    Can leagly do this to people?????

    Ozark is a good company but Wilson should have been more thorough if that's really why he couldn't hire him.

    There are a lot of companies though. Get it together, find something by calling recruiters and explaining the felony before you let them start pulling background checks again, then it looks bad when they don't hire you.

    You said they asked for felonies only.. did they not hire him because of something other than the felony he told them about?

    There are other companies and sorry you are going through this.. good luck.. hope you find something soon...

    This incident is a textbook example how drivers are taking a chance if they quit before new hire orientation. The flip side is you could have waited till you were hired then quit Trans Am on the spot, which is the smartest move but it still sucks.

    Sorry to hear this happened to you. Unfortunately, there are many companies who do not do a thorough check before they get a driver to come to orientation. At many big companies, orientation is just considered an extended job interview. They make no guarantees at all till orientation is over and they give you a truck. It isn't right, bit it is how they operate, and we drivers, while job hunting must be on guard against that. Good luck getting straightened out at a new place that you will be happy at.

    Well, in today's trucking industry you are at the mercy of the company..

    Trans Am is a bottom feeder.. Unfortunately, you're probably stuck with those type companies with a felony conviction..

    Springfield Mo has a plethera of trucking companies..CTI, PRIME,RBX,TRANSLAND (a very good co) a d many others.

    Jobless because of Ozark? No. Jobless because of you guys. You didn't fit the criteria. They probably did what they could do to get you in. Oh yeah. And get an apartment at least. Things happen.

    I'd be curious to know if he failed a drug test. They don't get you there then send you home unless 1.) you lied on app or 2.) failed piss test.
