Ya, I've run into a few already looking into transfering from ND and I don't blame them lol. I normally don't mind he cold but that's a bit much for me. That and we make more than a few dollars through our other related business ventures.

You are very informative. Not many people take the time to do what you did. Thank you. Also I just got my cdl and want to go up to North Dakota. I know you said no Exp go home. So what should I do to eventually get up there?

Just because I want experience doesn't mean everybody does there are jobs up here you just have to do your research and find someone that will take you on. I would just start calling everybody I could and talk to them worst they can say is no.

Hmm some fact checks:biggrin_2559: dates please? I found this Here and Here. Based on the Wind Chill factor calculator you would be -129. I'm sure in June you thawed out... :biggrin_25522:

I suppose since a college educated feller such as yourself says it didn't happen then it never happened. If you have that attitude then you probably better stay in an office environment and let those of us that know how to get the job done get it done. I know how cold it was I was the guy out on the ground with the radio on my shoulder. How do you think that we work year round if our oil froze every time it got cold. I'm tired of all you know it all ######## on here telling me how I don't know my ### from a hole in the ground. Since you know so much get out here and show us all how it's done. Bet you don't last a month in the winter.

All this talk of hard work and good money has got me itchin' to work in N. Dakota. Planning on getting my CDL very soon, just trying to decide the best way to time this. I know a lot of companies are looking for experienced drivers, but I have a clean background, good work history, and I think I can sell myself to the right employer. With media attention on all the jobs available in Williston, I'm afraid if I wait to long I'll miss my shot. On second hand, I know housing is non-existent up there and I'm not sure how wise it would be to pull into Williston in an RV in January.

So here's what I'm tryin' to figure out. Will there be a lot of people leaving because of winter? If yes, maybe my chances of getting hired fast will increase. Will enough people leave for winter so that space becomes more available in the man-camps? Otherwise I might need to wait until early Spring to make my move.

Just wanna finish by saying this is a great forum. I've been reading it everyday for the past week. It's answered a lot of questions about my career change. Now I just need to finalize my time frame.

You and I have the same idea. I live in Iowa and I was in the area back in August camping and hiking in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I saw what was going on and decided I wanted part of the action.

I cant offer any advice but I am starting cdl school on the on Monday. I plan to head up to ND in the late March or April when it starts warming up. I wish I stayed there in August so I could be settled for winter but now is too late. IMO too late to be head up with no job or housing secured.

It looks like there are always people hiring, so the time of year may not matter that much.

I am not worried about missing the boat, but we probably should of been there a few years ago. See ya there!

Somewhere on this forum I read that companies don't like to hire a newbie if they've been out of cdl school longer than 30 days. You might want to consider this if you plan to start school this Monday. I'm thinking of starting next month and getting a OTR job for a few months and then moving to ND in early Spring. I'm still not decided though. I don't like to jump from job to job and I'm not sure if only working at one company for a few months would be frowned upon by other employers.

Check out city-data.com. Lots of ND oilpatch employment conversations going on. Also, "selling yourself"to the right employer is a tough one with no experience. No experience = No experience. Some employers may have warehouse/yard jobs but you won't be able to sell yourself into a trucking gig with most companies. Either they hire entry level or they don't. The mayor of Williston has been on NBC, FOX, MSNBC lately promoting the oilpatch. The one thing all but one of the interviews leaves out is that the mayor has been saying "wait until Spring if you don't have housing". Do some news searches for Williston ND oilfield and you'll see a bunch of videos from the last few weeks on this boom. NBC's new show Rockcenter had a special on it's premier episode last Monday. Fox news, cnnmoney has a bunch of videos and articles. Check em out.
