It had been the opposite until recently. Halliburton and Schlumberger would hire newbies and send them through "their" program. Truckers steer clear from them because they make you attend their schools even if you have a cdl.

A CDL is just a required inconvenience to these companies. Driving would be less than 5% of your job in nearly all of their jobs. Less money up front but lot more experience in actual drilling/service operations. If you plan on making this a lifelong career than you are better getting on with them and paying your dues. Much higher earning potential down the line. Lot of people are well into 6 figures not that far removed from original low paying hire on position. Depends if you are quick learner/mechanical/ problem solver/leader.

Never heard of them. Montpelier in south of Jamestown, ND. 5 hours east of Williston and waaay out of the oilpatch. I'm sure they are owner ops working in the area. Good luck. Many, many more established trucking companies hiring in the patch.

Holy hell I just got back up here after getting to go home in October having hired a manager up here. Unfortunately he quit last week so here I am anyway it's cold up here now and the ####### turned off the heat in the trailer I had rented so I had to thaw water pipes out all day.

Yes this is true. My son worked the north slope in his twenties and now at 35 is a project manager up there making 6 figures and has been for quite a long time now. No degree. High school grad. Works up there, lives in Tx. And i would say he is all 4 of those things.

I know that's why I hired somebody to manage this place, so I could go home. But, alas here I am. Got this place thawed out now I've got to go up to Edmonton to look at some more equipment in the auction on Thursday. Hopefully it's not all froze up when I get back.
