I am currently going through MBI's training to work as a contractor under them. MBI explained the slight slowdown as this: A combination of the big oild companies expecting a hard winter so they slowed production in fear of not being able to get loads in and out, AND great weather allow truckers to move loads much quicker than a normal winter. EVERYONE I talk to expect this thing to pick but up and keep going strong for several years.
As far as working for MBI rather than a contractor there is a lot of things to say here. Depends on what your looking for first. You will get more security, benefits, predictability with MBI but you will also get A LOT more rules, red tape, etc.
And dont quote me on this but from what I have gathered pay at MBI is ABOUT 20/hr whereas at most contractors you will be close to 30...

Also, doesn't MBI make leasers follow all of their rules anyway?? Why is there more red tape with them direct than leasing on? -

Found this forum and this thread this morning about 2 AM.
Spent about 2 hours reading it and taking notes.
Contacted one company and filled out their application online. Submitted it at 3:30 AM.
Got a call today at about 9:05 AM Central time. They are in Mountain time so 8:05 AM their time.
At 3 PM central, I had an interview on Skype with a supervisor.
It will be an interesting weekend to say the least. "You will get a call from the girls in 3-4 days with an answer one way or the other."
If you can / have Skype on your computer, make sure it's working well in advance. It's becoming an HR tool for interviews folks.
"Meet George Jetson..."JimBob24 Thanks this.
