I have been up here for a few days now and i want to say something. I think the men up here are getting a bad rap. I have heard so many bad things, that they are creepy, that its dangerous, that all the women won't go to walmart anymore...that there are women and men getting raped...on and on. Perhaps its because i am used to sleeping in a truckstop full of men.. i don't know. But i don't get that feeling at all here. I am not getting leared at or followed around. I'm not even getting stared at. I was expecting all sorts before i came here but now that i am here it feels like the men purposely don't look because of all the things that are being said about them. I feel like most of the men up here are good and decent and they are getting a bad rap. And it seems like its because of the few bad ones. I feel perfectly fine to go to the walmart in fact i do everyday almost. There has only been one time so far that there was a creepy #####&ole staring this dark creepy stare inside a convenience store but that is the only time.

I am sure there are some bad ones mixed in here but its not the vast majority. I rarely felt unsafe while i was driving otr either. The men don't bother me that way perhaps its cuz i keep to myself and just do my job. And no I am not a toothless and ugly hag altho i am not 20 years old anymore either.

I wonder if some of it is because the women here just aren't used to so many men.

how would you describe the social environment there? for example here in miami, there is huge distrust of strangers. anyone you meet on the sidewalk usually won't acknowledge you. this place is loaded with criminals, players, liars etc. is it like that there from what you see? or is it more small town say hi to everybody you walk past? smiling faces or doom and gloom? thanks

That's my understanding. I went through their orientation on Tuesday, and the General Manager said they were in the process of being bought out, but didn't expect it to change their operation as far as owner/ops and drivers were concerned. I asked around later, and a couple leased on drivers said it was Quality Carriers buying them out.

Oh i don't know pathfinder. It just feels like any other town i've been to. Most people are nice some aren't. But i am not that friendly anyway. Sometimes i am but usually not. Plus i am a female so i am going to be treated with less suspect i suspect. I am not the bar scene type. cobra7476 tells me those are the ones who get into trouble. What prompted me to post this was earlier today i opened google news to see another report about a man getting raped yet when they tried to investigate they couldnt find anything.

Williston is definitely getting/has a bad reputation. The Williston Herald has one article after another about the crime, sex offenders, strip clubs, the miserable housing, the out of control traffic, meth labs, vandalism, etc. Even here in Chicago, the picture painted by the press and impressions given are not good. My own family members are shocked that I "let" my husband go work there. It's certainly not a place I would want to live, let alone visit. I used to want to go visit my husband, see where he works, meet his co-workers, learn about North Dakota, but eh, not anymore. My husband, and his co-workers are good guys, good family men, not partiers, pervos or law breakers. And he says most guys he meets are pretty cool and he hasn't seen any problems. He did say there's no shortage of idiot drivers doing the most dangerous, reckless manuevers (passing on shoulders, cutting across roads, making a pass going up a hill in a curve)...sheer stupidity. Sounds like they don't have enough police presence, maybe that will make people feel a bit safer..and to get a handle on the morons that are giving the town a bad name.
