That makes two. It's a trend. Hopefully, the SEC execs will understand how important adequate insurance is to an aging workforce. And sooner rather than later.

Dont get the wrong idea about SEC...

While it is true that they only offered health insurance for their employees and not their families they were upfront about that from the beginning.

Their problem was that since they were a small company they were unable to get enough of their employees to participate in the insurance to get anyone to carry them.

Most were like me who had spouses that had good insurance and saw no need to change.

Last year they did finally acquire the insurance they offered by paying most of the premium only costing the employee $15.00 per week. The problem was that this policy only met the minimum standards required by law with a $5,000.00 deductible and no copays nor prescription coverage.

They have been telling us all year that their policy renewed this october and at that time they were going to offer better coverage plus family coverage. Unfortunately they failed to do this and continued with the same type of coverage.

However we must also realize that many companies are discontinuing healthcare coverage altogether as a result of government intrusion into the situation. Not to become political on here but my case in point is ...

My wife works for a HOSPITAL ... while we were on her insurance the hospital has cut her to 24 hrs a week. Now being part time she will not get benefits after the first of the year. This is a growing trend across the country with no end in sight.

Since there is no way a trucking company can cut drivers to part time they will have to supply coverage. It will be up to us to find the carriers offering the best coverage. This underscores the importance of considering company benefits as well as milage pay when choosing a carrier to drive for.

In no way am i upset with SEC for deciding to go with the type of coverage they offered. It was a business decision. They have contacted me at home already and advised me they were working hard to improve the insurance but it may take a few months.

This is what it will take for companies and government to get the message. No, they dont have to supply good benefits and yes they can cut employees hours....BUT WE DONT HAVE TO WORK FOR THEM EITHER !!!!!

When people refuse to work for companies for part time wages or sub standard benefits they will get the message.

There are plenty of companies who do offer good benefits and competetive wages and they will get the best employees.

My point exactly, Tow. If a company only looks inward, the quality and turnover of their employees will be impacted. As the country transitions into the Affordable Care Act, it will be critical for employers and employees to make decisions appropriate to their own situations -- and to understand two things: 1) each impacts the other, and 2) the country will have a new president in two years. Blaming Obama or Bush or the Evil Chunky Monkey is not helpful. Our country is in transition and we all need to seek balance and exercise moderation.

    End speech.

All my life i have considered health insurance a vital part of my pay package. SEC was the first company that i have ever worked for that did not provide quality insurance since 1974. I did this because my wife had it. I will never do that again.

the premiums are going to go up but this will ultimately be absorbed by the better employers and the costs will be added to their products or services.

As with the introduction of healthcare insurance by employers in the beginning it was a tool to attract better employees. This will be the same again....the employers who want to retain better employees will provide it...the ones that dont will get the dregs of humanity for employees...

I have been driving a truck for a long time.
I don't quite consider myself one of the
dregs of humanity yet. I do see my share of
them though every time I park at a truck
stop. I see quite a few every time I shop at
Wal Mart. Yes SEC has lousy insurance. I
am certain they will rectify the situation after
they see their PSP score shoot thru the roof
and they lose a ton of money and customers.

Actually this is a bi-partisan screwup....

Everybody has known our health care system was being strained all the way back in the early 80's. Both parties have been in control again and again but neither chose to do anything but ignore it.

The problem has always fell upon a portion of our society who has chosen to be irresponsible and not provide for themselves or their children. Hence when they fall ill they run to the hospital for treatment and by law the hospital must treat them and never get paid. All the while these costs get past on to those of us who are responsible and provide for ourselves and our families.

Before someone starts getting off track and begins accusing racism this problem crosses all ethnicities.

I have a brother who is sorry p.o.s. he has spent most of his life in prison and when he wasnt in prison he was busy making welfare babies whom no one has an accurate count of..and yes he is not a minority...

He goes to the hospital all the time and never pays a bill. He makes fun of me for having insurance and paying my doctor bills.

Now as a result of his lifestyle he has stage 4 liver disease and is receiving the latest in healthcare..for free...and to add insult to injury is receiving a disability check and food stamps...he lives in a better house than me..has 3 vehicles..several motorcycles.. and his wife has recently started drawing disability because of a mental disorder...go figure...

Now i doubt any of us has the heart to look at a child and let them suffer or die because of money but where do we draw the line...

I say all of this because this is not a democrat or republican problem...it is an American problem and is going to require some very intelligent people and a lot of sacrifice to correct it.

If this is too political the mods can delete it...
