DD... I so wish you could get your cdl back because I know you could get hired here and you would love it...
DenaliDad Thanks this. -
DD I welcome your input in this thread.
You have real world experience and a gift for putting that in terms even a tired trucker can understand.
Please keep lurking and posting as you think appropriate.
hanging in OKC with 2:45 on my 70 and only getting 2:46 back @ midnight. -
DD is a smart guy (I follow him on twitter) and I and everyone else look forward to his posts. Glad he's part of the "team".

Just got back to Tennessee from a run to Daytona Beach and now heading to Socal for a turnaround run.
Didnt i read somewhere that long haul trucking was dead?
Maybe it was a dream or someone elses dream, quick, someone pinch somebody so we can all wake up....
Ahhh....you had to be there...inside jokejoseph1135, chowick1966, Air Breeze and 3 others Thank this. -
Long haul is not dead yet.
Just as you have set yourself up to succeed with a company that is not afraid to go long, I set set myself up for success.
This companies goals allow for me to run long haul and get home.
They want produce from the west coast taken to the Ohio/Kentucky/Tennessee area. And then they want me back on the coast as soon as practical to do it again.
I want to get home to Salinas, on occasion, and get descent length of hauls out and back.
Both my goals and the companies goals mesh.
I believe you can still find these long haul setups in smaller companies (400 trucks or fewer?).
More than 400 or so, the administrative overhead becomes too much and they start working the boards for High $ per mile short hauls. This unfortunately leaves the long haul guys out in the cold not making money and not getting the gravy from the short haul pay.
Could the bigger companies make short hauls work for OTR drivers? Sure, but they would need to pass some of the gravy to the drivers.
Pay per day (salary type concept) or have a guaranteed minimum pay per day (500 miles per day minimum, PER DAY NO PER WEEK threshold). Either way the clerks in the office would have to work to make sure each truck turns a profit. If each truck turns a profit the rest of the company would be doing fine.
Stepping off the soap box...... In Independence KY, 1:52 left on the 70.joseph1135 Thanks this. -
I figure about 95% of my driving with SEC is long
haul. Almost every time I go thru the yrd, they offer
me a choice of loads. When I go home for time off
they ask me when do I want to return to work. They dont tell me when to return. This company is
very driver friendly. I would recommend them any time. I hope they dont change the way they operate I doubt if I will ever get lucky and find
another company like this.joseph1135, DenaliDad and tow614 Thank this. -
Dangit AB... you and Tow are tempting me.
tow614 Thanks this. -
Took a short run to Alabama from Florida and now headed to Atlanta for Front Royal, VA. Good times!

Per the company bulletin board 8 solos ran over 14,000 miles in April.
Yep I was one of them.
Now I need to figure out how exactly that number was derived.
