Do I have to pay outta pocket any fees for the Jones Brothers CDL training? Even though I’m planning to work for them?
Cause I’ve seen in their websites the prices for the courses! -

The information I am about to give you, is from my personal experience. After being in the Van side for a couple years I moved over to Flatbed.
I highly recommend you choose a different Starter Company other than Jones Brothers to enter the trucking industry. If you can afford it earn your CDL thru a School (e.g. Community/Technical College) and select a company that has VAN and Flatbed divisions (such as Prime, Werner, Crete, etc.) and drive Van side for 6-12mo, then transition to Flatbed. There is a great deal to learn, and of course being winter a great deal more on top of that.
Jones Brothers was the first FB company I drove for, and did not remain with them that long. Here is PROs & CONs:
PROs - Pet (deposit) & Rider policies
CONs
They only have one main Terminal (Missoula) - getting Truck & Trailer repairs while on the road are extremely difficult
Medical Benefits - are inferior and costly
Truck & Trailer Equipment - assigned equipment has high-mileage and various issues related to poor maintenance.
Securement Equipment - condition of equipment is Average or below
Dispatching - 1) Conducted thru your personal email, not their onboard AOBRD (Zonar). 2) Attempts to reach dispatch after-hours, weekends and holidays.....you might as well sit and wait until next business day.
Safety Department - was recently taken over by another employee and reaching out to them while on the road, concerning securement and other safety related issues, is like pulling teeth from a toothless baby. They treat newbies (particularly those who earn their CDL thru JB) as if they are in High School and if you do something wrong they expect you to write up an essay.
Hometime - 1) If you live near Missoula terminal (about 2-3 hours away) you can NOT take your truck home; 2) You'll be out 2-3 weeks and on average you'll only do a 34hr (maybe 48hr hometime); 3) Your hometime will be interrupted with dispatch calling you informing you of next dispatch
Pay - you can find much better companies that pay more than .28cpm
If you have any further questions about my experiences with JB, message me. Also, I am in contact with a couple drivers that still drive for them so if you want I can put you in touch with them. They are "rustic" drivers so they won't BS ya.

p.s. if you are Military Veteran there are companies that will bring you onboard.blairandgretchen and tscottme Thank this. -
@Lawdog71 - if you know drivers that still work there at Jones Bros., it must not be to bad. Why don't they quit? This is a serious question.
