I would tend to agree with abuse but I was merely pointing out that those were the two most accurate methods of actual mileage as long as the truth were not stretched and we know no trucker would stretch the truth....:biggrin_25525:

if you figure most miles are 5-15% off, use an average of 10% on a 3000mi week, that 300 free miles

    multiply that by 30-50cpm (40cpm avg) thats $120/week x 52 weeks is about $6k

so thats about $6k per truck/driver that companies are banking

why should get the money when they agreed to pay the driver by the mile, yet are shorting him miles he has driven?

this is why FMCSA is so bogus, they can mandate everything under the sun, but drivers being shortchanged for years doesnt get a burp out of them

    FMCSA does not regulate pay.

The sad part is that the Department of Labor has no interest.

Also consider many companies simply pay miles "as-the-crow-flies" like from zip code to zip code.

Yea, and the DOL still considers and classifies the job as "non-skilled" labor.

When I used to drive the 48 for May Trucking I was consistently shorted 3% to 5%. Average that to 4% of 3k miles a week and that's 120 miles a week x 50 weeks, and that's some serious cash shortage at the end of that stick.

I don't know about you, but I can think of a lot places I could of used that extra 2k dollars a year I was shafted out.

interestingly enough, its not really them pocketing the money, they are getting paid on the same rate

it actually boils down to them not having to PAY the driver, so its a savings (maybe you could say pocketing) for them of $4-6k per year per truck

shucks, they could put that money into the health insurance and no one would care, but sadly, it shows the disadvantage of mileage pay, until the industry (truck drivers) change
