Hey all,
I have a couple of friends in the industry, and I bang questions off them all the time.... and I'm getting very comfortable asking questions here: very smart, caring, experienced folks....
A topic came up one night when I asked (because this driver was seriously... IS seriously) considering going to another company....
I asked how that happens..... do you give a 2-weeks' notice? Do you tell them (current employer)? What?
I was told... "NO FRIGGIN' WAY!!!!"
Was told the current employer will hit your Dac, frig with you, and make your life miserable... just go and don't say anything....
Huh.... Kinda the opposite of my train of thought on it... What's the real deal here? That driver correct?
Thanks,
Skeet

Hope you get some good replies here soon,I've got a job offer that fits my life and location a lot better than where I work now.

Sounds like your buddy works for a low life company. I have always given a notice and its has been fine. Often they will take you off to the side and see if they might be able to keep you. They will put what ever they want on your DAC, but sure to put negative response with no notice. One thing that companies look at, is if they will allow you to come back "rehireable" seem more important then if you had some minor bumps.

I drove for Swift for 22 months. I found a local gig working for a contractor on Ft Lewis (still driving!). I gave my DM at Swift 12 days notice (best I could get from the new company), taking time to explain the new opportunity. Since this happened right at the Feb slow down in freight, my DM and I agreed to 4 days notice and I was able to start my new job right away. No ding on DAC and they marked that they would re-hire upon review (standard).
Now, if I had just walked I probably would have gotten the DAC ding and no rehire. I probably will not return to Swift, but I do like to keep my options open.
Oh, and she (DM) knew there was no chance of keeping me. The new job made $1000/wk in 40 hrs (dayshift).skeet Thanks this. -
it all will depend on you depart, people are still human for the most part, but the #### system is far far from human...........which i can't understand...........as it's humans that do to us what they do

I agree somewhat here. It all depends on the company. There are some that just when they here that you are leaving, will make your life misearable, and some will try and talk to you and and fix the problem. The only thing wrong with that, if they have known about the problem for months, why wait until now to try and fix.
I have heard of some that as soon as they know that you are leaving, they hurry and put something on your DAC, so when the new company is finishing up your paperwork, bam, there it is, the negative.skeet Thanks this. -
Um.... I won't say who the driver works for... but it's a common name here when discussing 'bottom feeders'?!?
Good points... thanks! -
I believe in always taking the high road! If I ever leave Maverick, I will give a two week notice!

That's exactly what I was told.... one friend has been driving now for.... almost 2 years? Is thinking of going somewhere else now, and has the "feeling" that they better not tell or give notice to the current employer.... It's more than just a feeling....I would wager.... and this driver is in 'good standing' there...
I guess I'm wondering is this something that you really have to be concerned about, down the line, after your training, solo for 1+ years, etc.... how to go about switching without some arse dinging your DAC..... (That didn't sound right at all, but ya get my drift
This person will NOT tell this company.....
Thanks for all thoughts on this...! I'm still researching the entire industry prior to jumping into CDL school...

Oh and btw.... As an ex-Navy guy myself, I salute you brother!
