i've got my game plan now, and i really have to say i owe it to this site, doing lots of company look ups, research, talking to guys on here i've been able to gain a wealth of knowledge. before this site i figured i would do an upgrade with no full class, i'd get on with any company that would hire me, do a lease purchase plan, then when i owned the truck i could be an owner operator. what a pipe dream that was. i've talked to quite a few companies, i talked to a recruiter at roehl, he is a freemason just like i am, and i know i can trust his word. their training program is really good, 3 weeks with a training course, then you go out with a trainer i THINK 4-6 weeks, and then you still have a trainer or someone you can contact for help when you go out solo thats there with you. i think this spring i will be applying and looking to get on the training program and then drive for roehl, i haven't read anything bad about them and being that the recruiter is a brother i know i have not been lied to.
so thanks to this site, and the old hands that pump this site full of knowledge that took years to get, we new guys sure got it easy. i avoided a lot of headaches and HUGE mistakes thanks to this place!
just a general thanks to everyone

Hey OMD I wouldn't consider it a "pipe dream". You have a little ways to go but if that is one of your goals then there is no reason you can't easily obtain it. Just give yourself a little time. Personally I recommend at least a year or two. You don't want to set yourself up for failure and you really want to be comfortable out there before you tackle the business side of it. While you are out there once you have learned the ropes and have been acclimated to the lifestyle, start running your ship like you own her! Do everything you would as if you are an owner op and see how you do. There's no reason you can't start researching and learning about it now! Especially the business side of it. It will make you just all the more successful. Start stashing your pennies away too. A little out of each pay check toward your owner operator fund. You do that and you will #### sure be successful when it is time! Check out the OOIDA website. There is a lot of good info and learning on there. They also have a lot of good reputable links. There is also all kinds of books on cd or downloads for helping you with the owner operator business. Good luck to you! It will come quicker than you think, especially once you are out there!

i do fully intend on owning my own truck, i thought i would be able to sign up with say JB Hunt, and do a Lease purchase, and everything would be great lol.

Well it wouldn't if you did it right away. You will see though once you head out with your trainer how overwhelming it would have been. It is a lot of friggin work! We were a team and it was a lot of work. I always felt bad for the solo owner ops. Made me feel like a pussycat! Them solo O/O's are a hardcore breed! They are basically the owner, secretary, employee, accountant, mechanic, broker, driver, etc... all in one! Just give yourself a little time trust me.
o.m.d. Thanks this.
