it sounds like you apply for Authority BEFORE you actually have insurance but they hold off on your number until you have signed on a policy.....is this correct?
Can I start the Authority process now even before I have bought the rig..just to get it going??
Just applied for my authority today!

You can begin the authority process before purchasing a rig. But, you must have insurance within the first 10 days or it will take longer for your authority to be completed. Regardless, you must have insurance before your authority is issued. So with insurance being a requirement, you need a truck to insure. Yes it's tough. You will prob be making your 1st payment on truck with it sitting in the yard.
I'm awaiting my authority now. -
When you apply for authority you are issued a docket number. The docket number will be your motor carrier number. At least that is the way it was when I got my authority. You don't have to own a rig to have motor carrier authority. You will need insurance and most insurance companies want to tie your insurance to a specific piece of equipment. -
Yes, the process is to get your dot and mc # started and "pending status", then you'll need to have the ins. Co. File with fmcsa. Making sure that the ins. Co. That is used does the filing as part of their service. You will need a rig when it comes to obtaining ins. This is for filing reasons. It's kinda like what came first, "the chicken or the egg". An ins. Co. Can't insure without the vehicle that will be processed through dmv or the state you reside in. Big country

i got my progressive insurance before buying the truck. I still haven't bought the rig lol. Progressive said I must tie insurance to the rig, but i can change the rig or insurance terms any day. So once I buy the rig, I will update the rig my insurance is tied to. I hope to pick up the rig this Saturday

whats the typical time you get paid on bill of lading if you don't factor? Would 2 weeks be average or is it closer to 30 days? Thanks
