Is it the type that plugs into the cigarette holder. Husband has that one. He did get a larger antenna from IOWA 80 because going from one side of the coutry to the other it would not pickup.

The radio does not know what vehicle it is in.

I would avoid headphones. It will impare your hearing more important things.

I have one that I use everywhere . The limiting factor is mainly the antenna. Being that you need the antenna as much as the radio. I have an antenna on the truck and my car and one at home in the window. I use the same radio with a suction mount i bought from amazon in the truck then in the car and when i get home i put it on the desk . I never leave home without it . Or I am never without it , or something like that.

so i don't need to dock it permanently in the car right. i can basically move the dock from car to truck. but how does the fm transmitter pick it up? also is the antenna portable or separate or do i just use the radio itself with the car or truck antenna

the radio works just like any standard radio. it don't matter what vehicle you put it in. it will work. just plug in the power AND the antannae.

so i'd just buy spare antannaes. one for each vechile you plan on using it in.

The antenna is separate. It probably came with a magnetic hockey puck type antenna, good for the car. You can get an antenna for the truck from about anywhere (amazon, TSS.com, truck stop, best buy). The antenna cable plugs into a port on the dock.

The radio unit itself has a transmitter that you can set to a channel on the truck radio, but that gives the not so good reception. Best way is to have a plug cable that runs from the dock to the AUX plug in for the truck. There is also a set up that you can run right to the antenna of the truck radio but that is a PITA.

Your trainer may already have one. Suction cup mount is the way to go for ease of movement from one vehicle to another.

I think, not 100% sure that it is a 9mm plug. Like an earphone plug.

The magnetic antenna can go from truck to car. The regular truck type antennas usually mount on the outside mirror bracket.

the radio has a transmitter in it; you set your car/ truck radio and your xm to the same frequency if you dont/ cant use an aux cord. Problem with both on the same frequency is if you drive into a town that has a radio station of the same frequency you have to reset both radios.

I do move my radio from my tractor to my personal truck. I installed a magnetic antenna ( hockey puck) high on the back of the upper fairing ; up by the qualcomm. I also see most guys using double antennas on their outside mirrors. Ya, only one antenna results in bad coverage when that one antenna is facing away from the satellite ( the truck blocks the signal) I have another antenna in my personal truck; all I do is unplug it from the tractor and move it over.
