I bought a Pete 387 this week and I need to know what the law is for a car hauler length. I am trying to be compliant by getting out of my 1 ton and into a truck that can handle the weight. The law seems to say that I cannot be over 65 ft but I see drivers over that all the time in car haulers...hell I was over 65 ft in my 1 ton and never got fined. Most of all I NEED to support my wife and three boys safely. I'm doing what I can to make this work but I keep hitting huge walls. I am 36 yrs old and doing my best to start a new career and advice is welcome. Now I own a Chevy 3500 HD 2009, PETE 387 2004, 50 wedge Kaufman and I'm about to buy a 53 ft double deck that will haul 6-7 cars next week.
Any advice is welcome..Thanks

I'm not sure on the laws, but my dad drives a NASCAR Car hauler and it's 60' Long and they don't have any problems with LEO's.

First thing's first car hauling has it own set of rules. Car haulers are considered specialized equipment and do have length laws. Each state can set its length with a limit no shorter than 65 feet on a high mount and no shorter than 75 feet on a stinger. Florida is one of the few states that check length on a regular bases and the fine is $100.00. Reference regulations 658.5 and 658.13 (e) (1) (i) and (e) (1) (ii).

BTW, congrats on moving up to a semi, you're life will be alot easier. I'm glad I went with a semi tractor to do the job my dually did..... Braking is the major thing I like.
Does you trailer have air or electric brakes?
