As someone going to school very soon, I've always wondered what you ladies and gents do for the hours you have to spend in your truck not driving. For example..parked in the middle of nowhere...hours till you can drive. How do you spend it besides sleeping? Can you get tv or just dvds, etc? video games?

Always wondered about this....no idea why :biggrin_25523:

Thanks everyone..have a good night and be safe!

Trust me. If you run hard, you stop, grab a quick bite to eat, talk to the Mrs. and hit the sack. You value that sleep. Lol. I know there's guys and gals out there with satellite an the whole 9 yards, but for me I only turn the TV on and watch a movie when I'm doing a restart. But even then, I really don't want to be in the truck all tht much, so ill Geocache if I have time.

by the time you post trip, do your paper work, call the wife, make something to eat, and take a shower, that 10 hour break can seem like 4 hours at times. esp if you've been running hard. but maybe that's just me.

We can do all that and much more. I used to carry a roadpro grill and a folding camping chair so that OTR I could have eggs, bacon, waffles, ect. In the Clackamas town center parking lot just like I do at home. Then again, you can always go for a walk and explore the surroundings. I recommend a conceal and carry permit first though.

Let me add, you have to drop the kids off at the pool, shower, paperwork, pre plan for the next drive...etc. Go to sleep, wake up, pre trip the truck, get something to eat again. If you are on a mileage contract, you're going to have to put down the miles to make money. As many miles as you can. You can't just run strong one day and slack the next. Every day, you have to be at your best. That's almost impossible to do without proper sleep. I see these guys get parked, and set up satellite dish, or turn on the TV. I don't have time. When it's time to drive, it's full "Go!"

You see these guys post about accidents caused by carelessness and fatigue. They hit something and they come here asking about their next option since they got canned from a bottomfeeder. If you are well rested every day, you should have absolutely no difficulty at all staying alert for 11 hours. Like Reycer said, "Value sleep".

Like the first reply says. You eat, talk to wife, go to bed. I actually like it that way, no down time equals less boredom. And feels like your hometime comes faster.

I started at 0001 this morning, drove my 14 out today, got dinner, rented three movies from redbox, watched them all tonight and about to pass out after being up for 22 hours. I don't have to leave my current location till 10 am in the morning, so I organized truck, swept floor between movies and just cleaned all the inside Windows.

Don't get me wrong, my company is bending me over, so when I said drove it out, I meant drove 356 miles in 14 hrs. I'm getting back on a daytime schedule is why I'm still awake
