I have my cdl and have never been behind the wheel of a big rig. Well except to take the test. Would you hire me?
His age has nothing to do with it. Some schools don't meet some company requirements and therefore will not be acknowledged as an accredited school.
Just discovered my school is not accredited or approved

Good luck to you in your job search! -
It's not about your driving school! It's about you and your driving! If a company does not hire you cause they say your school was not on their favorite list, to bad for that company.....keep looking, think about what kind of trucking that you want to do, short haul, long haul, regional, city work, home every night or gone for a month, straight truck, dump truck, flatbed, van, tanker. Check out the oil fields, work there for a bit, and move up as you get experience.

Since Prime, Werner, Trans Am, and Schneider all sent recruiters to the school, I'm beginning to think that maybe the half dozen or so companies I did not hear from are just using that as an excuse. I may be a little too old (57) for a lot of companies to hire me with no experience.
Schneider, Prime, Werner, Central Reefer, and USX have all contacted me, so hopefully I'll be able to hook up with someone soon. I hope. -
I doubt that your age has anything to do with it.You already called Crete. Why don't you call these other companies and see what is on your application that they don't like then at least you'll know.

Yes I drive for Crete. I went to school at ATDS in Waco, TX. And yes I was hired straight out of school.Steve C Thanks this. -
If a company wants to hire you they can get the school on their list with a fax page. My school Wasnt on Watkins list and all they had to do was call and have a form filled out.

A school has to be approved by a company. It all involves the school meeting the requirements of the company on the curriculum of the school. Does the school meet the minimal coarse hours? Does the school spend the approved hours on certain coarse subjects? What is the schools rate of good drivers? Some companies that hire students have different requirements for these things. Some companies don't care and will put anyone in a truck just to fill a seat. I will say its not these companies blowing you off. It is you went to an unapproved school for that company. It's no different than a tech school or a major college. No matter what career you do the school you go to makes a difference. Lets take tech schools for instance. We have a few here but I will use two of the Nashville AutoDiesel College and Nashville State. Both of these companies have auto diesel mechanic coarse but Nashville State has a more strenuous coarse. So shops around here will hire someone from Nashville State before NADC. They feel there less training with that graduate vs the other. Ultimately reducing costs and driving up profits.

To others looking to start , get a list of companies you would like to drive for first then check that the school you want to use is on their list of approved schools. May save some disappointment.
