LOL ! Ya know, I was trying to remember what we did and I just can't recall. I don't even remember the name of the transmission, it was the 10 speed where you had to lo to high on every gear 1 lo, shift/click 1 high?
The Super 10 maybe? God I hated that and first time I switched to the current Eaton 10 speed I #### near stalled out on my company test drive shifting from what I thought was 2 lo shift/click 2 high but it was actually 2nd to 7th! Yeah, I REALLY impressed the instructor that day.

This might be a silly question does the training industry have simulators for shifting and double clutching? It seems like with technology the way it is today they could create something easy. This would allow the students to gain knowledge of the pattern and rythm of shifting, and keeping an eye on the RPMS, also put them in different sceneros like comming off, or going on exits, up/down hills and stuff.

Werner has an impressive truck simulator...they are they only one that I know of. A recruiter came in to meet with us students last week and handed us a brochure on the simulator.

UPDATE: I was better driving today. Yesterday we bobtailed, today we had the trailer...what a difference. I'm still grinding a bit, but I was better than yesterday. We'll see how I do tomorrow.

It WILL get easier! I was frustrated when I was learning not too long ago myself.

    Keep at it!

it gets better as you go along..don't flip out yet..after a while, driving will be like breathing to you, an autonomic function..the driving part is the easiest part of trucking believe it or not..the hard part is sharing the road with hudreds of other drivers who usually leave you hanging when it comes to lane changes etc.,p.s. heres a free tip.. give your heart to the Lord (if you havent already) and learn to talk to Him a lot as you travel the highways and byways of this old land..p.s. I'll be praying for ya..shakey:biggrin_25525:

:biggrin_2556: I rember my first time out, i did like a guy told me , wacth the speedo and go from there, and tach , dont over rev the engine , its takes practice too let off the throttle as slid into the next gear, thats why i wacth my tach as soon i dropped i slide it in, but that depends on your load too, i wont even go into floating gears, here, thats what you do after 4 years on the truck, :biggrin_25523: i too did the plunger trick , even while sittiing in class i was pushing down with right foot and moving my left as we wacthed the video on transmissions,

The only thing a can say is to watch your rpm's and road speed also you really can skip gears like in a car the gears are set up to be engaged at a certain speed. I have only been driveing a few months so I cant brag or tell you different. I still have some trouble down shifting but its getting better day by day. I drive a mack with a 10 speed going up hill with some speed loaded I shift around 1400 rpm and it goes right in. I hope this kinda helps.
